TIPTON — Five area girls track and field events among three Conservative area teams will compete at the 2016 Drake Relays this week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The annual showcase of the best track and field participants begins Wednesday with the Decathlon, Heptathlon and the pole vault and concludes Saturday afternoon.
Tipton has three girls, two of which are in field events. Seniors Caitlin Himes and Alyssa Crock are joined by freshman Jamie Kofron at the Relays. Himes will return to the Relays in the discus event while Kofron (shot put) and Crock (100-meter dash) make their Drake Relays debuts. Himes will throw Friday morning at 9 while Kofron will throw at 3:30 on Thursday afternoon. Crock will run in the prelims of the 100-meter dash at 8:31 Friday morning.
Durant has a pair of seniors going to the blue oval. Thrower Brinn Grunder will compete in the shot put and distance runner Alyssa Williams will compete in both the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter races. The 1,500-meter run is at 12:45 Saturday and the 3,000-meter run is at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Grunder will throw Thursday afternoon at 3:30.
North Cedar will also have a relay event out at the relays. The Knights 4X400-meter relay team qualified. They will run in the prelims on Friday night at 8:31 p.m.
Northeast Goose Lake senior Aleenah Marcucci three individual races and Mid-Prairie sophomore Anna Hostetler two races as they lead a field of many River Valley Conference runners and throwers for both boys’ and girls’.
