TIPTON — The Tigers swimming program has a lot to be excited about this season. Last year the Tigers were celebrating consistent numbers with 17 swimmings. This year, the team is made up of 15 girls. The Tigers have a three-year run of roster average of 16, their best in a while. Those numbers helped the Tigers to a 5-1 dual record last year and a 6th place finishes at their Regional meet.

Having the numbers again this season will again help the Tigers compete for meet titles. The numbers will allow coach Whitney Gehrs to fill the line-up and add depth to events as in recent seasons Gehrs returns for her 8th year guiding the Tiger swimmers

Four of the five individual events best swimming times return. Two returners had a pair of top times in events. Junior Ali Anderson had the best time in two spring events, the 50-yard freestyle (26.61) and the 100-yard freestyle (59.94). Sophomore Zoe Stonebraker, had the best times in the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.42) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:52.62). Junior Britney Ford returns and had the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.48) while sophomore Maddie Swick returns after having the best time in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.89).

In relay events, three of the four members of the top 200-yard freestyle relay return in Anderson, Stonebraker, and Swick. The time of the relay had was 1:52.62. All four members of the Tigers best time in the 400-yard freestyle relay team return. Swimmers on that team were Sara Webb, Artica Dykstra, Zoe Stonebraker, and Maddie Swick. The relay team swam in a time of 4:19.29. In the other Tipton relay, the 200-yard medley relay, three of the four members return. They are Britney Ford, Zoe Stonebraker, and Artica Dykstra. Ashley Mente was also on the relay. The relay team swam to a time of 2:01.25.

There is also added excitement this year around the team as the state has changed how teams can qualify for the state meet. The Tigers have not had a state qualifier in nearly ten years, but this year could be the year they make a run.

Gone from the Tigers 2017 team Katie Binns, Kenadi Krenz, Ashley Mente, Isabelle Valet, Erica Wehde, Bee Simmermaker, McKenzie Himes, Keira Swallom.
