Iowa Draws Notre Dame in Big Ten/ACC Challenge




Hawkeyes host Fighting Irish November 30 in Iowa City
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa women’s basketball team will clash with Notre Dame as part of the 2016 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Hawkeyes host the contest on Wednesday, November 30 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
Broadcast information and tip time for the 10th annual challenge, which has ended in a 7-7 tie in back-to-back seasons, will be announced at a later date.
It will be the third meeting between the programs. Notre Dame leads the series, 2-0, recording a 61-50 win in 1996-97 and a 74-57 win in 2012-13 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in Iowa City.
The Fighting Irish finished the 2015-16 season with a No. 6 ranking in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25 Poll and a 33-2 mark. In conference action, the team used a perfect 16-0 season to clinch a regular season ACC Championship. Notre Dame, led by 30th-year head coach Muffet McGraw, also won its third consecutive ACC Tournament title and advanced to the Sweet 16 last season.
The Hawkeyes are 3-6 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, coming off of an 85-73 victory at Virginia in 2015-16. The program has posted series wins against No. 22 Syracuse in 2013-14, 97-91, and Virginia Tech in 2011-12, 58-47. Iowa is 16-9 all-time against ACC opponents.
The Big Ten and the ACC have long been among the most competitive conferences on the women's basketball scene. The Big Ten sent five teams to the NCAA Tournament in 2016, as Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue all advanced to the national tournament. In addition, six conference squads were selected to the WNIT. Last season, the ACC saw five women's basketball teams selected to the NCAA Tournament, while four advanced to the WNIT.

2016 REGULAR-SEASON GAMES AT PRINCIPAL PARK


DES MOINES — This season a handful of high school baseball teams will play at Principal Park in Des Moines.  The games take place on off days for the AAA Iowa Cubs.  The park is the same one that will be used for the 2016 Iowa State Baseball Tournament.

Rachel Dolezal, Katie Flood & Shelby Houlihan 2016 Inductees Into IGHSAU Track & Field Hall of Fame

Ar-We-Va of Westside's Rachel Dolezal, Katie Flood of Dowling Catholic and Sioux City East's Shelby Houlihan are the 2016 inductees of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union's Track and Field Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the 2016 State Track and Field Meet at Des Moines' Drake Stadium.
Dozark starred at Ar-We-Va, Westside from 1992-to-1996. She was a part of seven state championships, winning the Class 1A 1500 meters as a freshman while helping Ar-We-Va win four distance medley crowns and two sprint medley state titles. She was a two-time Drake Relays state qualifier, placing second in the 800 meters in 1994 and third in 1995. Dozark was a member of the Northern Iowa Track and Field team from 1996 to 2000, earning Missouri Valley Conference Academic All-Conference honors. Dozark was an all-conference indoor selection in 2000. When her collegiate career ended in 2000, she was a part of four relay teams that owned schools records in the sprint medley, 4x800, 4x400 and distance medley relays. Dozark is married to former prep track and field standout Jon Judisch and is a volunteer assistant coach with the South Central Calhoun track program.
Flood starred at Dowling Catholic in West Des Moines from 2006-to-2010. She owns 11 state track championship, eight Drake Relays crowns and three Cross Country championships. She is one of five runners to win the 3000 meters four times, ranking second on the Iowa all-time list with a 9:27.25 time. She is the only athlete to win four Drake Relays flags in the 3000 meters. In addition to her 3000 meter crowns, Flood won three 1500 state championships, two 800 meter crowns and anchored two 4x800 meter relay teams to state championships. Flood went on to star at the University of Washington, where she won the NCAA 1500 meters as a sophomore, setting school records in the 1500 and 3000. She was the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year in Cross Country in 2010. She was the conference champion as a sophomore and qualified for the NCAA championships all four seasons at Washington.
Houlihan enjoyed record setting careers at Sioux City East and Arizona State. Her Sioux City East career (2017-2011) saw her win eight state track crowns, eight Drake Relays championships and one state cross country state championship. Houlihan owns the Iowa all-time best times in the 800 (2:07.35) and the 1500 meters (4:26.39) and her 800 meter time of 2:08.15 is the State Meet record. As a senior, she joined fellow Hall of Famer Sara Stoakes of North Tama as the only Iowa preps to win the 400, 800 and 1500 in a state meet. She also anchored East's state champion 4x400 meter relay team.  Houlihan is one of three runners to win three Drake Relays' titles in the 800 meters. As a senior, she was the Drake champion in the 800, 1500 and 3000 meters,  winning the 800 in a Relays record 2:08.15 time en route to being named the meet's 2011 Outstanding Performer in the high school girls division.
Houlihan was a 12-time all-American at Arizona State, the second most in the school's history. She owns school records in the 800, 1500, mile and 3000 meters. In 2014, she was the NCAA champion in the 1500 meters and placed second in 2015. She also a three-time Pac-12 champ in the 1500 meters with two 5000 meter conference crowns. In 2014, she become just the second Sun Devil to win a Pac-12 Conference Cross Country title. She was also the NCAA Regional cross country winner in 2014. A seven-time Academic All Pac-12 selection, she was a 2015 nominee for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award.
