Beavers are sectional champs, will advance in postseason play


DURANT — The Wilton boy’s golf team captured the sectional title on their home course last week to advance to this Friday’s district meet, at Wapello.
The Beavers shot a team low score of 335 to place rst at the Class 2A meet. Van Buren was next as the runner-up with a team score of 349. Due to Wilton being the host school,
a third team reached Friday’s district meet. That team was Mediapolis which shot a team score of 378.
Wilton senior Jared Townsend was the medalist at the meet with a score of 80 for the 18-hole meet. Teammates Brock Hartley and Brayton Wade also were in the top-5. Hartley placed third with a score of 82 while Wade placed 5th with a score of 85. Clayton Bruckman was the medalist runner-up with a score of 82.
Taran Nelson from Danville was and Jadon Hawk from Central Lee were individual quali ers after shooting 87 and 88 respectively.
Wilton joins ve other River Valley schools that will have a boy’s golf team playing Friday at a district meet.

Tiger golf teams advance in the postseason


TIPTON — What a week for golf for area teams and espe- cially the Tipton Tigers. Both THS golf teams sit one meet away from reaching the state meet in Class 2A after the rst round of the postseason last week. They join Durant and Wilton as Conserative cover- age schools with both boys and girls teams one meet from state.
The Tiger boys were the runners-up to West Branch
at a 2A sectional meet at the Tipton Golf Club. The Tigers shot a team score of 341. West Branch won the sectional
meet with a team score of
306. Durant also quali ed for Friday’s second round of the postseason since Tipton placed in the top-2 as the host school. The Wildcats shot a team score of 351.
West Branch golfers Ted Bridges was the medalist and Dylan Countryman was the medalist runner-up with scores of 73 and 75. A third Bear, Brady Knoop placed third, also with a score of 75.
“In the last 5-10 years, we have done well at the conference
but have struggled to advance team-wise in the postseason. To go back and advance two years in a row, is awesome. It feels like an expectation,” said Tipton golf coach Heath Hesse. “Our next step is to get to state,” he said.

Tipton scores were Jacob Tischuk 82, Luke Becker 85, Bob Ryan 86, Caleb Jedlicka 88, Landan Hill 92, and Bren- dan Nantz 97.
Durant scores were Logan Callison 79, Lucas Callison 84, Drew DeLong 90, Drake Jehle 98, Ethan Gast 101, and Koby Paulsen 113.
Other team scores at the meet
were fourth, Iowa City Regina (351); fth, Northeast (376); sixth, North Cedar (387); seventh, Bellevue (397); and eighth, Camanche (435.
North Cedar was led by Cost- ner Pruess with a score of 88 and Cameron King with a score of 95.
The Tiger girls were runners- up at their regional meet at Wapello. Tipton was second to Williamsburg in the team standings. The Raiders led the 8-team eld with a score of 357. Tipton was second with a score of 367.
“We were there (state) re- cently. I think it will help with expectations. We have two of our girls that have played at the state meet. They work hard and have excelled,” said Tipton golf coach Heath Hesse.
Ellie Phillips from Wil- liamsburg was the medalist with a score of 86. Tipton sophomores Alli Nash and Alex Ho man tied for the medalist runner-up with a score of 86.
Other Tipton scores were Addy Duwe 96, Britney Ford 99, and Katie Binns 120.
Other team scores were third, Iowa City Regina (403); fourth, Central Lee (408); fth, West Branch (416); sixth, Danville (428); seventh, Mediapolis (432); and eighth, Louisa-Mus- actine (441).
The Tiger boy’s team will travel to Wapello Golf Club for their meet Friday. The Tigers are one of six River Valley Conference schools still playing in the postseason.

Beavers second at Dyersville regional


DYERSVILLE — The Wilton girl’s golf team advanced to play in next week’s second round of the Class 2A Region- als after nishing second at a 2A Regional meet at Dyersville Monday afternoon. Wilton had a team score of 401 to nish as the runner-up to regional champ Monticello who won the meet with a team score of 377.
“We are really playing some good golf right now. Today, we produced another season-low 18 hole scores (401). The chal- lenge that lies ahead of us next Monday is a rather daunting one. We are the only team in the group that has not pro- duced a sub 400 team score. Monticello, Tipton, and Wil- liamsburg have consistently produced scores below 400,” said Wilton golf coach Jamie Meyer.
Taylor Garvin shot an 18-hole score of 93 to lead Wilton.
She shot scores of 47 and 46. Annabel Grings shot a score

of 100 and Eleney Owens shot a score of 101. Other Wilton scores were Zoe Barrett 107, Ryleigh Stevens 112, and Lexi Walker 114.
North Cedar placed 5th at the regional meet. North Cedar was led by Parker Stout who placed 3rd overall to advance to the second round of Region- als as an individual player. Stout shot as score of 49 on the rst nine-holes and shaved six strokes o that total on her second nine-hole score of 43.
Other North Cedar scores were Lydia Esbaum 102, Carly Meier 110, Kate Jackson 116, and Macy Helmond 120.

Durant advances to second round of Regionals
CALAMUS — The Durant girl’s golf team nished second at the Class 1A Regional meet at Calamus-Wheatland Mon- day afternoon. The Wildcats had a team score of 421, three strokes behind regional meet champion Maquoketa Valley who won the meet with a team score of 418. The Wildcats advance to the second round of regionals on Monday, May 20 at Strawberry Point.
Belle Rockow placed 3rd overall with a score of 97. Rockow shot a score of 50 on the rst nine-holes and shaved o three strokes to shoot a score of 47 on the second nine holes. Karissa Hoon placed 5th with a score of 101 after shooting scores of 51 and 50.
“The girls played well today, It seems if one of them have a bad day someone else picks up the slack, that is what is great about this team they work well together. We will have to play well to get through the next round,” said Durant coach Denise Ahrens.
Other Durant scores were Makenna Buesing 107, Emilee Huston 116, Ellie Olsen 118 and Kiley Stineman 138.

Five events to to state meet for THS as automatic quali ers


TIPTON — The Tipton Tigers will be repre- sented by six events at this week’s Class 2A state meet in Des Moines. Five of those events were automatic quali ers after placing rst of second in their respective meets.
“The kids have been improving each meet. To perform at the meet, it is a testament to them buying in, them putting in the work, and them seeing that they get the results they want,” said Tipton head coach Mike Wehde.
Camanche won the meet with a team score of 123 points. Tipton was the runner-up at the meet with a team score of 106 points. The two teams were the only ones to top the 100-point mark at the 12-team meet. Wapello placed third with 95 points.
Wehde said that the River Valley Conference will have a lot of representation at the state meet.
“It will be like another conference meet. It will take out some of the nerves of a state meet I think when you look around and see relays and individuals that you have competed against most of the year. If you compete against high level competition like we do in the RVC, it only will help when we get to a state qualifying meet like this, or at the state meet,” he said.
Tipton won four events at the meet and placed 2nd in another. Andrew Stewart quali ed for state after placing second in the high jump with a best jump of 6-feet, no inches. Trent Pelzer won the 800-meter run in a season best time of 2:01.91. Frank Bierman and Paden Zell were 1-2 in the 110-meter high hurdles. Bierman won the event in a season-best time of 15.25 while Zell was the runner-up in a time of 15.70. Caleb Shumaker collected two state bids. The sopho- more distance runner won the 3,200-meter run in 10:18.34 and was the runner-up in the 1,600- meter run in a time of 4:43.51.
The Tigers had three relay events qualify for the state meet. The Tigers 4X800-meter relay team of Trent Pelzer, Cody Bohlman, Noah Jedlicka, and Andrew Olseen won the event in a time of 8:31.27. The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Paden Zell, Davis Butler, Payten Elijah, and Frank Bierman were runners-up in the event in a season best time of 1:01.10.
Also qualifying for the state meet is the Tigers 4X400-meter relay team. The team of Andrew Stewart, Connor Hermiston, Frank Bierman, and Trent Pelzer placed 4th in the event in a season-best time of 3:33.30.
Six THS events turned in season best times with three relay events among the six. Markus Rosenkranz placed 18th in the 100-meter dash in 13.06. Connor Hermiston placed 6th in the 200-meter dash in 24.29. Ben Ellis rounded out the individual season-best results with a 4th place nish in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:29.60.
In relays, Tipton’s 4X100-meter relay team of John Stroup, Davis Butler, Payten Elijah, and Paden Zell were 6th in 48.09. The Tigers 4X200-meter relay team of Stroup, Elijah, Ka- leb Nerem, and Brandon Valet placed 5th in 1:39.25. The Tiger’s distance medley relay team of Hermiston, Bierman, Stewart and Shumaker were 4th in a time of 3:46.82.
Pair of Knights Headed To State
Two North Cedar athletes will get an opportu- nity to compete at the 2019 Class 2A State Meet this week in Des Moines. The Knights had two state quali ers. They are Caden Wendt and Kael Unruh.
Wendt placed second in the shot put with a best throw of 53-feet, 2 inches. That throw is a season best for him. Unruh earned one of eight wildcard spots given to the last eight best n- ishes statewide in events. Unruh placed 4th in the long jump with a best jump of 20-feet, 10 inches.
North Cedar had several events record season- best times. Kael Unruh placed 4th in the long jump with a best jump of 20-feet, 10-inches. Davonte Crist placed 19th in the 100-meter dash in 13.39. Two Knights had season-best times in the 200-meter dash. Unruh places 7th in 24.59 and Jacob Wagner placed 18th in the same event in 26.85. Gage Walshire had a season-best time in the 110-meter high hurdles in 18.56. Jaxon Sander placed 8th in the 400- meter hurdles in 1:02.53.
The Knights had two relay teams turn in sea- son best times. The Knights 4x200-meter re- lay team of Chance Cinkovich, Evan Patterson, Jaxon Sander, and Unruh placed 7th in 1:40.77. The Knights distance medley relay team of Jacob Wagner, Evan Patterson, Chance Cink- ovich, and Jacob Spahr placed 7th in a season- best time of 4:15.56.
North Cedar placed 10th in the team race with 26 team points.
Willkomm Goes To State In Three Events
Durant’s Jake Willkomm will go to state this week in Des Moines. He won the long jump to go to state, and also jumped to a best jump of 21-feet, 1.75 inches to win the event. Willkomm will also go to state in the 200-meter dash. Willkomm was the runner-up in the event, run- ning to a nish of 23.02, a season-best time. Willkomm was also on the Wildcats 4X400- meter relay team that will go to state, qualifying for one of the eight wildcat spots in the event, after having one of the next eight-best times statewide. The relay team of Willkomm, Jer- emy Carnes, Jack Voss, and Bryce Pracht placed third in the event in a time of 3:32.17.
Senior Mason Compton also will advance to state. Compton was the runner-up to Willkomm in the long jump, jumping to a season-best jump of 20-feet, 11.50 inches.
The Wildcats had six season-best times come
from the meet. Marcus Engstler placed 11th in the 200-meter dash in 25.28. Jack Voss and Jeremy Carnes placed 5th and 6th in the 800- meter run in times of 2:03.44 and 2:03.76. Cam- eron Hoon placed 7th in 1:02.22. Durant had two relay events turn in season best times. The Wildcats 4X200-meter relay team of Cameron Ruggiero, Marcus Engstler, Zach Badtram, and Cameron Hoon were 6th in a time of 1:40.00. The Wildcats 4X400-meter relay team of Jake Willkomm, Jeremy Carnes, Jack Voss, and Bryce Pracht placed 3rd in a time of 3:32.17.
The Wildcats placed 7th with a team score of 48 points at the meet.
Hein Punches Ticket To State Meet
Wilton’s Zach Hein captured the runner-up spot in the 3,200-meter run at last week’s state qualifying meet at Tipton. Hein ran to a run- ner-up nish in the event in a time of 10:20.57. That time was a season-best time.
Several Beavers claimed season best times at the meet. Silas Harris placed 21st in a sea- son-best time of 14.21. Two Beavers claimed season-best times in the 200-meter dash. Lu- cas Dora placed 16th in 26.23 and Gabe Paetz placed 20th in 28.70. Ethan Bailey had a sea- son-best time in the 800-meter run in 2:16.99. Isaac Hunter was 14th in the 1,600-meter run in a season-best time of 5:20.45. The Beavers also placed 5th in the shuttle hurdle relay in a season-best time of 1:12.86 with the team of Scott Martin, Abram Jirak, Cody McDonald, and Jacob Reifert.
Wilton placed 11th with 19 team points at the meet.

Tipton sends 10 events to state as automatic quali ers


TIPTON — The Tipton Tiger girl’s track team will send ten events to the state track meet this week in Des Moines, after automatically qualifying each event for state at last Friday’s state qualifying meet. The Tigers had the most wins with ve and most automatic event qualifi ers at the meet with 10 among the 12 teams represented. The meet was held in Tipton and the Tigers and the other 11 teams were greeted with temperatures in the low 60’s at the start of the meet and a very large crowd of spectators. The meet was origi- nally scheduled for Thursday, May 9, but cold and windy conditions forced the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Ath- letic Union to move the meets in all classes to Friday.
The Tigers won ve events and placed second in ve others for their ten automatic quali ers. The top two finishers in each event go to state, while the next best eight times statewide in each event also go to state. Northeast won the state qualify- ing meet with 107 team points. North Cedar placed third with 94.5 points and Iowa City Regi- na placed fourth with 80 points. Durant placed 8th and Wilton 10th in other area schools.
Winning events for THS were Jamie Kofron collecting a pair of wins in the shot put and dis- cus; Amanda Smith finishing second in both the 800 and the 1,500-meter runs; and THS re- lays - shuttle hurdle, 4X200, 4X400, 4X800, and the dis- tance medley relay. Six of those events turned in season-best times.
Kofron will get a chance to de- fend her 2018 discus title and a runner-up finish in the shot put. Kofron won the shot put with a the season-best throw of 46-03.25 breaking her own school record in the event and throwing fur- ther than her winning distance last month at the Drake Relays. Kofron also won the discus with a best throw of 132-feet, 9 inch- es. She came into the meet with the best distance in each event. Smith was the runner-up in the 800-meter run in 2:33.83 and in the 1,500-meter run in 5:25.53. She was the second seed in the 800, but rose to the runner-up nish in the 1,500 after entering the meet with the fourth best time in the event. Liz Bierman placed second in the discus event with a best throw of 114-feet, 6 inches.
All ve relay events that quali- ed for state, turned in season- best times to punch their tickets to the state meet this week. Two relays exceeded their seeds to captureoneofthetwoautomat- ic qualifying slots in the event. The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Ashlyn Curry, Courtney Petersen, Liz Bierman, and Syd- ney Barton ran to a runner-up nish in 1:11.50. The relay was seeded third before the meet. The Tigers 4X200-meter relay team of Emily Hermsen, Rachel Bierman, Karlee Kamberling, and Jaydon Bierman were run- ners-up in a season-best time of 1:52.60. The relay was seeded fourth entering the meet.
Tipton won three relays at the meet and was seeded rst enter- ing the meet. All ran to season- best times. The 4X400-meter relay team of Kallie Wallick, Rachel Bierman, Karlee Kam- berlling, and Sommer Daniel crossed the nish line rst in 4:13.96. The 4X800-meter relay team of Kallie Wallick, Amanda Smith, Alyssa Mente, and Sommer Daniel took rst in a time of 10:29.33. The Ti- gers distance medley relay team of Emily Hermsen, Rachel Bier- man, Kallie Wallick, and Som- mer Daniel nished rst in a time of 4:29.65.
Five others turned in season- best times at the meet. Liz Bier- man threw a season-best in the shot put with a best throw of 33-feet, 9.25 inches, and placed 7th. Kailee Martin ran to a season-best time in the 100- meter dash in a time of 14.35 to place 15th. Kelley Lieser placed 5th in the 400-meter dash in a season-best time of 1:06.34. Alyssa Mente placed 9th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:42.81, a season-best. Ash- lyn Curry rounded out the ve season-best times, with an 8th
place nish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.63.
Knights Place 3rd, Send 6 Events To State
The North Cedar Knight girls track and eld team will send six events to this week’s Class 2A state meet this week in Des Moines. The Knights had ve automatic quali ers and one wildcard quali er last week.
North Cedar sophomore Kelly Proesch quali ed for state in four events, all were season- best times. Proesch won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.10 and was second in the 200-meter dash in 27.20. She added a runner-up nish in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.06. The Knights sprint medley re- lay team of Andrea Wachen- dorf, Kassidie Galloway, Kelley Proesch, and Cassie Cox were second in 1:52.85, a season-best time. Kassie Cox also claimed an automatic qualifying spot by winning the 400-meter dash in a season-best time of 1:01.13. North Cedar distance runner Kiley Chapman added a wildcard spot to get to state by placing 3rd in the 3,000-meter run in a season-best time of 11:29.31.
North Cedar had ve other events claim season bests at the meet. Nicole Sander placed 3rd and had a season-best throw in the discus with a toss of 110-09. Aubrie Pruess placed 17th in the 100-meter dash in a season-best time of 14.82. Rhyan Hoe er placed 7th in the 800-meter run in a season-best time of 2:39.88. Kyra Lange placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles in a season best time of 1:22.93. North Cedar’s 4X200- meter relay team of Andrea Wachendorf, Kassidie Gallo- way, Sydney Dennis and Sam Koth placed 7th in a season- best time of 1:58.69.
Three Events To State For Beavers
The Wilton girl’s track and eld team will take three events to this week’s state meet in Des Moines. Qualifying for Wil- ton were Kelsey Drake in the long jump, Linsey Ford in the 100-meter hurdles, and Kelsey Drake and Kortney Drake in the 400-meter dash.
Kortney Drake captured the Beavers only automatic event quali er. Drake was the run- ner-up in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.91, giving Cass- ie Cox from North Cedar all she could handle. Cox won the event in a time of 1:01.13. Ford placed 4th in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 16.23. Kelsey Drake will go to state in two events. Drake placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash in a season best time of 1:02.92.
Three other events for Wilton turned in season-best perfor- mances. Abby Brown placed 13th in the 800-meter run in a season-best time of 2:58.67. Two Wilton relay events had season best times, the 4X800 and the sprint medley relay team. The 4X800-meter relay team of Abby Brown, Tessa Bar- tell, Lindsey Randolph, and Emi Coss placed 5th in the event in a season-best time of 12:22.78. The Beavers sprint medley re- lay team of Linsey Ford, Aubrey Putman, Kelsey Drake, and Kortney Drake placed 4th in a season-best time of 1:54.97.
Wilton placed 10th in the team standings with 37 points at the meet.
Wildcats Will Have Two State Events
The Durant girl’s track and eld team had two athletes punch their tickets to the state meet in Des Moines this week. Meg Koenig and Abby Ryan will represent Durant at the Class 2A state meet. Durant placed 8th at the state qualifying meet in Tipton last Friday, scoring 44 team points.
Koenig won the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 26.83 winning a talented eld to capture one of the two auto- matic spots in the event. Ryan advanced to state by placing fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.11, a season-best time.
Durant had several season-best times, coming out of ve events at the meet. Abby Ryan had a
4th place nish and season-best time in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.11. Heidi Wolf placed 14th in the 800-meter run in a sea- son-best time of 3:02.39. Ellie Berry and Ellie Fuller-Long had season-best time in the 1,500- meter run. Berry placed 6th in 5:34.88 and Fuller-Long was 12th in 6:34.37. Savanna Strom also had a season-best time in the 100-meter hurdles in 14th place in 20.13. The Wildcats 4X100-meter relay team of Meg Koenig, Dayna Maiers, Lauryn Tate, and Abby Ryan placed 8th in the event in a season-best time of 54.85.

North Cedar 6th at co-ed


CAMANCHE — The North Cedar boys track team competed at the Camanche co-ed meet on April 29. The Knights got a preview of the track that would host the 2019 River Valley Conference meet. There, North Cedar placed 6th out of nine scoring teams with 54 points. Caden Wendt won the only North Cedar event at the meet. Wendt captured the shot put title with a best throw of 50-feet, 1-inch.
North Cedar added two top-10 nishes in eld events. Jacob Sander placed 4th in the discus and 6th in the shot put. Milo Easterly added a top-10 nish in the 3,200-meter run.
North Cedar had a lot of success in the relay events.
North Cedar placed in the top-4 of three relay events. The Knights shuttle hurdle relay team of Jaxon Sander, Jacob Wag- ner, Gage Walshire and Chance Cinkov- ich placed third in 1:12.47. The Knights placed fourth in the sprint medley relay, the 4X800-meter relay, and the distance medley relay.
The meet featured four of the seven River Valley Conference North schools. North- east won the meet with a team score of 163. Bellevue was next with 130.5 points, and Calamus-Wheatland was third with 129 points. The host Indians were fourth in the standings with 104 points.

Knights 6th at Tigerette


TIPTON — The North Cedar girls golf team placed 6th at the annual Tipton Ti- gerette Classic last Thursday, May 2 at the Tipton golf and country club. There, the Knights shot a team score of 447, three strokes behind 5th place Solon and ve strokes behind 4th place West Branch. The host Tigers won the meet with a team score of 383. Tipton had the top-2 indi- vidual nishers in medalist Allie Nash and medalist runner-up Alex Ho man. Nash had a score of 87 and Ho man 91.
North Cedar was led by Lydia Esbaum with a score of 102 and Parker Stout with a score of 103. Other North Cedar scores were Carly Meier 113, Macy Helmold 129, and Katie Jackson 139.

Pruess leads Knights at Tipton golf classic


TIPTON — North Cedar’s Costner Pruess led the Knights at the annual Tip- ton Tiger golf classic last week. Pruess had a score of 92 lowering his rst nine- hole score of 50 by eight strokes on the second nine holes (42). North Cedar placed 10th at the meet with a team score of 407.
Other North Cedar scores were Ethan Sahr 102, Cameron King 106, Tyden Lange 107, Chase Gallagher 108, and Chase Miller 112. The meet was resched- uled from an earlier date that was postponed due to weather. DeWitt won the meet with a team score of 301. West Branch was second with a score of 308 .

Eight season best times at RVC Meet for North Cedar


North Cedar sophomore Kelly Proesch extended the Knights streak of having at least one RVC outdoor champ in ve straight years after winning the 100-meter dash last week at the conference meet in Camanche. Proesch ran to a season-best time of 13.30 in the event to win the title. In the six-year existence of the RVC meet, North Cedar has only not claimed an event title in the rst year of the league in 2014.
North Cedar placed 8th in the team race with 44 points. The Knights had one event win, one runner-up nish, and two third- place nishes. As a team, North Cedar had two season-best nishes as well in events. Cassie Cox placed second in the 400-me- ter dash in a time of 1:01.80. Kiley Chap- man placed third in the 3,000-meter run in 11:30.60. Nicole Sander placed third in the shot put with a season-best throw of 37-feet, 6.5 inches.
North Cedar’s best relay nishes came fromsixthplace nishesinthe4X100-me- ter relay and the sprint medley relay. The 4X100 relay team of Andrea Wachendorf, Sydney Dennis, Kassidie Galloway, and Cassie Cox were 6th in 54.81. Knights play at Durant Invite


DURANT — The North Cedar girls golf team placed 8th last Friday when they traveled to Wahkonsa Golf Course. There, Tipton shot a team-low score of 380 to capture the title.
Parker Stout led North Cedar scores with a 95 for 18 holes. Stout shot a score of 46 on the rst nine holes and 49 on the sec- ond nine holes. She placed fth overall in the medalist race. Stout shot one-under par on one hole, par on three holes and one over par on six holes at the tournament.
Tipton had the top-2 individual scores at the meet with Alli Nash claiming the med- alist honors with a score of 85 and Addy Duwe close behind with a score of 93. Monticello was second in the team race with a team score of 394. The Panthers had the third, eighth, and tenth best indi- vidual scores. Tipton recently won an in- vite at Kalona. Wilton placed fourth with a team score of 417, Durant was 6th with 431 and North Cedar was 8th with 436 points.
Other Knight scores were Lydia Esbaum 99, Carly Meier 115, and Macy Helmold 127. Esbaum shaved three strokes and Helmold seven strokes from their rst nine-hole scores to their second nine-hole scores.

Knight boys play at West Liberty
WEST LIBERTY — North Cedar was one of four area golf teams to play at the West Liberty Invitational last Tuesday. There, North Cedar placed 10th with a team score of 386. DeWitt won the meet with a team score of 318, West Branch was second with a score of 325 and Clear Creek-Amana was third with a score of 340.
North Cedar was led by Costener Pruess and Cameron King with scores of 91 and 92. Pruess shot a score of 48 on the rst nine and shaved o ve strokes on the second nine holes with a score of 43. King shot scores of 44 and 48.
Other North Cedar scores were Chase Miller 97, Chase Gallagher 106, Ethan Sahr 118, and Taden Lange 127. Miller, Sahr and Lange each lowered their second nine-hole score from their rst nine-hole score.

Knights run at Cascade


CASCADE — The North Cedar boys track team were to run in two meets last week, but their meet at Northeast on Monday, April 22 was cancelled do to poor weather. The Knights would run in their only meet last week on April 25 at the Cascade co-ed. There, the Knights placed 6th in the team standings out of 11 teams. North Cedar scored 44 team points at the meet.
Kael Unruh won the only North Cedar event at the meet, winning the long jump. Unruh jumped to a best distance of 19- 10.0.
North Cedar had two relay events place in the top-5. The Knights 4X100-meter relay team of Chance Cinkovich, Evan Pat- terson, Skyler Darts, and Gage Walshire placed fourth in a time of 51.95. The Knights placed fth in the distance med- ley relay event. The team of Devonte Crist, Patterson, Darts, and Jacob Spahr placed fth in a time of 4:34.73.
In individual events, Milo Easterly’s 5th place nish in the 3,200-meter run and sixth place nishes by San Choate in the 800 and Unrun in the 100-meter dash game the Knights their top nishes.
Knights Runners-up at home meet
STANWOOD — The North Cedar boys track and eld team hosted a ve-team invitational last Tuesday, April 23. There, the Knights scored a season high 152 points and were second to meet champion Tipton. The Tigers won the meet with a team score of 172 points. Maquoketa was third with 142 points followed by Midland with 84 and Wilton with 74 points.
The Knights won one event at the meet. Kael Unruh won the long jump with a best jump of 18-feet, 9 inches. Unruh also had a pair of runner-up nishes in individual events. He was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.68 and second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.03. Both were season best times in those events for him. Un- ruh’s 100-meter time supplanted his best time of 12.01 on April 2 in a meet at Durant and his time in the 400-meter dash was the rst time he has recorded this season in the event. Unruh also placed third in the 200-meter dash in 24.88.
North Cedar had a lot of success in the eld events. Jacob Sander placed 3rd in the discus and Caden Wendt 4th. Sander threw for a season best distance to date, of 114-feet 5 inches. Wendt’s best dis- tance was 109-10.35. Jaxon Sander placed 3rd in the high jump with a best jump of 4-10 and Gage Walshire placed fourth in the long jump with a season best distance of 16-feet 1-inch. In the shot put, Caden Wendt placed second with a best throw of 50-feet 8 inches and JT Cash had a sea- son best throw at 34-feet 5 inches to place 8th.
North Cedar had three relay events place in the top-3 at the meet. The Knights shuttle hurdle relay team placed second in 1:12.96. North Cedar placed third in a pair of relay events. North Cedar was third in the sprint medley relay in 1:43.57 and third in the 4X400-meter relay in a time of 4:42.09.

Knights place 8th at Marion Invitational


MARION — The North Cedar Knight girl’s track team placed 8th at the 10- team Marion Invitational last Thursday. The Knights scored 32 points at the meet. DeWitt won the meet with131teampointsfol- lowed by Marion in second with 102 and Mid-Prairie in third with 82 points. Another River Valley Con- ferenceschool,Monticello, placed 5th with 59 points. North Cedar did their most damage in eld events at the meet, scoring 27 of their 32 team points in those events.
Nicole Sander won the only North Cedar event at the meet, winning the shot put with a best throw of 37- 03. Sander added a third place nish in the discus, throwing a best distance of 96-feet, 9 inches. Cal- lie Meyer was fourth in the discus with a best throw of96-06.MariahBehrens scored one-point, with a sixth place nish in the shot put with a best throw of 33- 02.5. Aubrie Pruess tied for second in the high jump with a best jump of 4-feet, 6 inches. The Knights best nish in a running event, came from a fourth place nish in the distance med- ley relay.
Chapman, Cox, and Proesch lead Knights at Anamosa Co-Ed
ANAMOSA — The North Cedar Knights began a busy week last Tuesday, April 25th at Anamosa at the Raider co-ed meet.
North Cedar was led by Ki- ley Chapman, Cassie Cox and Kelly Proesch who combined to score 52 of the Knights 80 team points at the meet. North Cedar placed third behind meet champion Mount Ver- non and runner-up Ana- mosa with 134 and 125.50 points.
Individually, Chapman and Proesch each won an event. Chapman won the 3,000-meter run in 11:42.71 and placed third in the 1,500-meter run in 5:19.87. Proesch won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.92 and was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:09.72. Cox placed third in the 200-meter dash in 27.23 and fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.77. NorthCedarhadtwo,top-3 nishes in relay events. The Knights 4X100-meter relay team of Andrea Wa- chendorf, Cox, Kassidie Galloway and Proesch were second in 53.21. The Knights sprint medley re- lay team of Wachendorf, Galloway, Proesch and Cox placed third in 1:55.61.
In eld events, Callie Meyer led North Cedar with a 3rd place nish in the discus while Aubrie Pruess placed 5th in the high jump.
