The Tipton Tigers welcomed NE Goose Lake to town in October of 2004 for homecoming 2004 and walked away with a 7-6 win, giving Tipton their first district loss of the season to that point. The Tigers record fell to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in class 1A district 5. The top-two teams in the district qualified for the playoffs back then. The District standings looked like this after the Tigers game:
Class 1A District 5
Starmont 4-0 6-0
Tipton 3-1 4-2
Clayton Ridge 3-1 4-2
NE Goose Lake 3-1 5-1
North Cedar 2-2 2-4
Bellevue 1-3 2-4
Midland 0-4 0-6
North Linn 0-4 1-5
The Tigers scored the games first touchdown early in the fourth quarter when Tyler Schroeder caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Nate Ohrt. At the time, the PAT miss by Ryan Bormann wasn't a big deal as the Tigers led 6-0 and could rely on their defense who was playing well that night.
Northeast Goose Lake however, fought back and scored the tying touchdown late in the game on a 15-yard pass from Dylan Diedrich to Marcus Winkler. The Rebels placekicker, Mark Mahmens booted the PAT giving the Rebels a 7-6 lead.
The Tigers could not answer the score, losing the football game, by one-point, 7-6.
Craig Kreman led Tipton in rushing with 68 yards on 23 carries. Ohrt passed for 168 yards on 11 completions with a touchdown. Tyler Schroeder caught nine passes for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Tipton had four different players record a sack in the football game led by Ryan Bormann with two. Chad Geary had a team high 11 tackles while Craig Kreman added 10 and Bormann and Jeremy Gaunt each had 6.
