Karon Brown Recipient of First Lady Award

  Karon Brown, Senior Associate Executive Director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, is the 2016 recipient of the First Lady Award.
    The former Karon McAdoo is a 1977 graduate of Prairie City. She became an employee of the IGHSAU in the summer of 1977 and has dedicated her 39-year professional career to making girls high school athletics in Iowa second to none.
    Her career at the IGHSAU began as a receptionist before becoming secretary to former IGHSAU Executive Director Dr. E. Wayne Cooley. She has held positions as an administrative assistant, Assistant Director, Associate Director and currently Senior Associate Director. 
    Brown's work at the IGHSAU has been largely behind the scenes. She is the primary liaison with the IGHSAU Board of Directors and the Representative Council and manages the schedules of the many events that take place during Athletic Union state tournaments and events.  She also is the IGHSAU’s general office and human resources manager.
    In addition to her work with the IGHSAU, Brown serves as the Executive Vice President of the Iowa High School Speech Association, a position she has held since 2002. 
    Karon and her husband of 33 years, Rick, are the parents of two children; Ben (26) and Blair (23).
