TIPTON — The Tipton girl’s track program will start year two under the guidance of coach Jill Engels. Last season, the Tigers placed 5th at the River Valley Conference, scoring 56 team points, their highest placing at anRVC meet and also the highest point total at a RVC meet. The Tigers had five events go to state and Jamie Kofron qualified for the Drake Relays in two events. A lot of that talent from the 2017 season returns.

Out this season are Alyssa Elijah, Kenadi Krenz, Allison Ryan, Zoe Rezac and Tiffany Schott, Blake Ehler, Hunter Humphrey, Bee Simmermaker, Jamie Kofron, Amanda Smith, Emily Hermsen, Sara Webb, Karlee Kamberling, Sommer Daniel, Ashlyn Curry, Jocelyn Baltazar, Isabell Garcia, Araceli Martinez, Sydney Jargo, Courtney Petersen, Hailey Stewart, Rachel Bierman, Liz Bierman, Kayley Clark, Kelly Lieser, Jaydon Bierman, Zoe Stonebraker, Kallie Wallick, Halle McCollough, Alycia Barclay, Mariah Petersen, Hannah Hodges.

Jamie Kofron won two RVC titles last year, one in the shot put the other the discus. She placed in the top-5 in each event at state. Hunter Humphrey placed 3rd in the 100-meter dash, Tiffany Schott placed 3rd in the 400-meter hurdles, Kenzie Mente had two, top-10 finishes in distance events, Amanda Smith was 7th in the 800 and then freshmen Kamryn Chapman and Sommer Daniel each had top-10 finishes at the RVC meet. Mente ran in two events at state. The Tigers 4X800-meter relay team of Smith, Mente, Schott and Alyssa Elijah also competed at state.

Tipton will compete in 10 outdoor meets before the RVC meet in West Liberty on May 3. The Tigers were to host three home meets, but the first of two co-ed meets was canceled due to weather. The annual Tigerette Relays are scheduled for Thursday, April 12. The Tigers will get a boost from hosting a state qualifying meet on May 10.
