North Cedar’s Carter Johnson brings the ball up the floor as Du- rant’s Josh Hein, left, tries for the steal during the Knights game with the Wildcats last month. WELLMAN — The North Cedar Knight boy’s basketball team won their second game in three tries after winning by 10 points, 63-53 last Friday. The Knights improved to 3-6 and won their first road game in six road games so far this season.
The Knights fell behind 14-9 after one quarter, but played the Golden Hawks nearly even in the second quarter 16-15 to go to halftime down 30-24. North Cedar came alive in the second half. North Cedar used a 19-9 run in the third quarter to take a 43-39 lead into the final quarter. North Cedar extended their lead to 10 by the end of the game, after outscoring Mid-Prairie 20 to 14 in the final quarter.
North Cedar had a good shooting night, going 23-for-46 from the field to end the game shooting 50-percent. The Knights also shot 50-percent from the three-point line (4-for-8) and the Knights got to the free throw line 22 times, making 13 of those attempts.

Golden Hawks Consistency Too Much For Knights
WELLMAN — The North Cedar girl’s basketball team fell victim of a consistent Mid-Prairie girl’s basketball team last week in a 50-29 loss Friday. The Golden Hawks scored 11 or more points in each of the four quarters while holding the Knights to less than 10 points a quarter in the ball game.
Mid-Prairie jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and North Cedar could not claw back into the game. Mid-Prairie led 26-12 at halftime and 38-21 after three quarters.
Leah Crock had another big game scoring a career high 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to record her first double-double. Mid-Prairie shutdown the Knights starting guards, holding Tessa Fields, Grace Proesch and Lexi Crist to 4 points combined in the game and 2-of-17 shooting.
