CEDAR RAPIDS — The West Branch Bears advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in school history with a four-set match win over #5 Wapsie Valley Wednesday. The #4 Bears will play top-ranked Western Christian in a class 2A semifinal today, Thursday, November 12.
The Bears got 21 kills each from Bailey Lukavsky and Haley Poula in the win. West Branch lost the first set, 25-23, but evened the match at 1-1 with a second set, 25-23 win.
West Branch won the third set to take a 2-1 match lead, 25-20. The Bears finished off the match, beating Wapsie Valley 25-19 in the fourth set.
