Beavers Go Quietly In Regional Final

WEST LIBERTY — The 12th ranked Beaver volleyball team won their 34th match in a Regional Semifinal win against 2016 state participant Mediapolis, but the Beavers could not make it 35 match wins.  Wilton bowed out of the 2017 season with a 3-0 match loss to #11 Iowa City Regina on Tuesday October 31 in West Liberty.  The Beavers end the season 34-6.  That record was the ninth best class 2A record heading into the state tournament.  
Wilton will say goodbye to seniors Taylor Goldermann, Lexi Maurer, Kali Milder and Kallie Poor.  The senior class was part of 66 match wins in the past two seasons.
Iowa City Regina won the first set 25-7 taking momentum in the match and a 1-0 lead.  The Regals took a 2-0 match lead winning the second set 25-18.  Wilton scored the most set points in the third set, but fell 25-19 as the Regals completed the match sweep.
Wilton was 2-1 in the 2017 postseason with wins at home over Durant and Mediapolis in regional play.
The Regals improved to 28-8 and will face two-time, class 2A defending champion Western Christian in the first round of the 2A state tournament.  Western Christian improved to 37-6 with their regional final win.  The Regals are one of two River Valley Conference members going to state.  The Tipton Tigers, also in the RVC South, joined the Regals at state in the class 3A field after advancing with a 3-0 sweep over Davis County.
Wilton had 71 attacks in the match with 18 kills.  Aubrey Putman had a team leading 9 kills while Taylor Goldermann had 4 and Kortney Drake had 3.  Kallie Poor had 14 assists.  Drake led four players with double digit digs with 18.  Kali Milder and Putman each had 12 and Maurer had 10.
WIlton served 41-for-46 with one ace as a team.  Kallie Poor led Wilton, going 12-for-12 while Kali Milder was 8-for-10.  The Beavers had five blocks in the match, led by Emily Lange and Taylor Goldermann who each had two.
Iowa City Regina advanced to the Regional Final with wins at home over West Branch and Van Buren, both by 3-0 match scores.  The Regals had 111 attacks in the match.  Alex Wiese had a team high 12 kills on 29 attacks while Jaedynn had 11 kills on a team high 37 attacks.  Wiese led in digs with 18 and serving, going 16-for-16 with two aces.  Emily Bonnett had 25 assists, 17 digs and served 14-for-14 with two aces.
