CEDAR RAPIDS — The class 2A state volleyball bracket was completed last night with the conclusion of the Regional Final round of postseason play. Area team #8 West Branch punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 3-0 win over #10 Durant. The Bears will play top-ranked Dike-New Hartford in the first round of the state tournament next Wednesday at 2.
A unique thing in the class 2A tournament is that the eight teams that are at state, are the top-8 ranked teams by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and no upsets along the way derailed them from making state. Here are the top-8 ranked teams:
1. Dike-New Hartford 37-3
2. Sumner-Fredericksburg 30-2
3. Hull, Western Christian 42-3
4. Unity Christian 31-5
5. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 35-2
6. South Central Calhoun 41-0
7. Grundy Center 29-9
8. West Branch 34-3
Semifinals will be Thursday, November 13 and the 2A State Championship match is Friday, November 14 at 4:45. All of the State Championship matches are on live, on Iowa Public Television, statewide.
