DES MOINES — The River Valley Conference started the season with five teams ranked in the preseason Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s top-15 poll in classes 3A and 2A, and now there are four after Camanche has dropped out of the class 3A poll this week.
In class 2A, the top-6 teams remained the same including two RVC teams in 2nd ranked Iowa City Regina and #6 West Branch. Both were ranked at their current position last week. Unity Christian remains the top-ranked team in 2A. Lawton-Bronson jumped up two spots to #8 and Van Meter jumped four spots from #13 to #9 and was the biggest jumper. Losses by I-35 and Central Decatur shook up the top-10 this week.
In class 3A, the top-3 teams remained the same in this order - Nevada, Pocahontas and Center Point-Urbana. RVC member Monticello fell to #8 after losing their first game of the season. Mt. Vernon continued their slide, falling to #12 after another loss. The Mustangs fell to #7 in last week's poll. RVC member Camanche fell out of the 3A rankings altogether.
Sioux Center made the biggest jump in any class this week. A week after not being ranked Sioux Center jumped all the way to #5 in the 3A rankings.
The other classes so no change in their top-ranked teams. Waukee is ranked 1st in 5A, Ballard in 4A and Springville in class 1A.Class 2A
