Tigers Win Ron Maxon Relays With 150 Points

  WEST LIBERTY — The Tipton boys track team won the Ron Maxson Relays last Friday to end a two-meet week on a high note. The Tigers scored a season season-high team points and scored over 100 points for the second straight meet. The Tigers claimed five event victories and five runner-up finishes at the meet. The host Comets, scored 146 points and placed second followed by Solon in third with 103 points. Durant placed fifth with 86 points and Wilton was sixth with 72 points.

  Wins for the Tigers came from two in the field events, one relay win and two individual wins. In field events, Andrew Stewart won the high jump with a best jump of 5-10 and Quinten Mesick won the long jump with a best jump of 19-01.25. In individual events, Corey Wallick won the 800-meter run in 2:10.53 and Caleb Shumaker won the 1,600-meter run in 4:51.30. The Tigers relay event that placed first was from their 4X800-meter relay team of Caleb Shumaker, Brandon Valet, Noah Jedlicka, and Bryce Deerberg were second in a time of 8:44.82.

  The Tigers placed second in five events. The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Paden Zell, Davis Butler, Payten Elijah, and Frank Bierman were runners-up in a time of 1:03.07. Placing second in individual events for Tipton was Zell in the 110-meter high hurdles, Ben Ellis in the 3,200-meter run, Noah Jedlicka in the 800-meter run and Quinten Mesick in the 200-meter dash.

  Five of the eight Tipton relays placed in the top-3. Tipton placed third in the 4X100, 4X200 and the distance medley relay events.

  The Durant Wildcats had a lot of success at the meet. The Wildcats two events place second as part of their 86 team points.

  Durant had a lot of success in the field events at the meet. Carter Voelkers placed second in the long jump with a best jump of 18-feet, 3-inches, and Cameron Hoon was third with a best jump of 17-06.5. Cale and Dawson Frett were fourth and fifth in the shot put and sixth and eighth in the discus. Cale threw the shot put 42-11.5 and the discus 119-04 while Dawson threw the shot put 42-07.75 and the discus 117-08.

  In individual events, Easton Botkins, Jeremy Carnes, and Jake Willkomm each had third-place finishes. Willkomm placed third in the 200-meter dash in 24.75. Carnes was third in the 400-meter dash in 56.30 and Botkins was third in the 1,600-meter run in 4:56.96.

  Durant’s best relay finishes came to form their 4X100-meter relay team of Cameron Ruggiero, Jake Willkomm, Cole Miedema and Mason Compton in a time of 47.34 and a third-place finish in the distance medley relay event with the team of Marcus Engstler, Ty Chenault, Easton Botkins, and Jack Voss.

  The Wilton Beavers scored 72 team points at the meet. The Beavers won one event and placed second in two events. Buddy Darting won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:26.25 and collected a runner-up finish in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:55.94. The Beavers got second in the Weightman’s Relay event with the team of Charles Martin, Silas Harris, Jacob Reifert and Jacob Creamer in a time of 52.15.

  In individual events, Brian Stillman and Chase Miller went 4th and 5th in the 400-meter hurdles and Caleb Sawvell was fifth in the long jump.

  In relay events, the Beavers followed up their runner-up finish in the weightman’s relay with 5th place finishes in the 4X100, 4X200, 4X400, 4X800 and shuttle hurdle relay events.
