Hawtrey and Hay Named All-State

DES MOINES — The honors keep rolling in for area volleyball players.  North Cedar senior Emily Hay and junior Darby Hawtrey were named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s class 2A All-State volleyball team.  Both were honorable mention selections.

Hawtrey had the 9th best kill total in all of class 2A with 418.  She was one of eleven class 2A players with 400 kills or more.  She was in the top-35 in kill totals in all classes.

Hay had the fourth highest total for assists in all of class 2A with 918.  She was one of just four players with 900 or more assists.  Her total was 18th best in all classes.

Western Christian head coach Tammi Veerbeek was the class 2A Coach of the Year and Western Christian’s Karsyn Winterfeld was named the class 2A Player of the Year.  Mackenzie May, a senior from Dubuque Wahlert, was named the IGCA Player of the Year for all classes.

All District Team Announced

DES MOINES — The Iowa Girl’s Coaches Association recently named their Class 2A All-District teams and several area volleyball players were among the selections to the class 2A Southeast team.

Tipton freshman Sommer Daniel, North Cedar senior Taylor Kress and junor Darby Hawtrey, Durant senior Cathy Ralfs and Wilton’s Aubrey Putman were named to the team.  All were on the River Valley Conference Elite All-Conference team.

The River Valley Conference also had selections of Sarah Lehman from Iowa City Regina, Abby Knoop from West Branch were also selections.  Erin Stefener, head coach from Mediapolis, was named the District Coach of the Year.
