Mente, Ford run at All-Star cross-country meet

DES MOINES — Two area cross-country runners competed at the 2016 Senior All-Star cross-country meet held on the campus of Des Moines Area Community College last Saturday. Tipton’s Kenzie Mente and Wilton’s Kaylee Ford took part in the meet as members of the East squad.
Criteria to run at the meet is 1. must be a senior, 2. Established the time requirement of 21:30 or under for girls’, and 3. Must have completed the cross-country season in good team standing.
The East beat the West by a team score of 15 to 50. The East team had the first seven runners finish the meet. Gabby Skopec from Iowa City West won the meet with a time of 19:00 followed by Hannah Frazee from Cedar Rapids Priaire in 19:34 and Becca McDermott from Cascade in 20:08.
Mente, who placed 32nd at the 2A state meet last week placed 15th in 20:55. Ford, who placed 29th in the 1A race at the state meet, placed 12th overall in a time of 20:52.
On the boy’s side, the East beat the West by a team score of 19 to 38.
Ali Ali from Iowa City West was the overall winner in 16:27 followed by Drake Henrichs from Urbandale in 16:39 and J.J. Orput from Carlise in 16:45. 


Tipton's Kenzie Mente was one of two local kids that ran at the IATFCA All-Star meet last weekend on the campus of DMACC Community College in Ankeny.
