5 Events headed to state for Tigers

DES MOINES — The Tipton Tigers will send five events to the state meet this week after scoring 74 points and placing fifth at a class 2A state qualifying meet they hosted last Thursday.  The Tigers send three relays and two individual events.  The Tigers shuttle hurdle, 4X400 and 4X800-meter relay events along with Wes Zell in the 110-meter high hurdles and Quinten Mesick in the long jump are the state events for the Tigers.
A packed home crowd and people lined around the fencing, saw some very good races and had an opportunity to take in one more local track meet and enjoy outstanding weather for the event.  The Tigers finished 14 points out of second place.  Northeast Goose Lake won the meet with a team score of 114 followed by runner-up Iowa City Regina (88), third place Camanche (82) and fourth place North Cedar (75).  The Tigers won three events and had one of the five events qualify via one of the eight statewide wildcard spots.
Two of the Tigers wins came in relay events.  The Tigers won the shuttle hurdle relay with the team of Parker Jensen, Frank Bierman, Brendon Claussen and Wes Zell in a time of 1:01.63.  Zell provided a speedy anchor leg to blow by Wapello’s anchor to claim the event.  The Tigers ended the meet with a win in the last event at the meet, the 4X400-meter relay.  The team of Dalton Clark, Isak Skeie, Dillon McCollough and Quinten Mesick crossed the finish line in a time of 3:29.61.
In individual events, Mesick earned a wildcard spot at state after a fourth place finish with a best jump of 19-feet, 11.5-inches.  The Tipton district had a strong district for the long jump event.  Zell also qualified in the 110-meter high hurdles.  Zell won the event in a time of 15.36.
The Tigers 4X800-meter relay team placed third in a time of 8:29.40 with the team of Bryce Deerberg, Sam Bierman, Trent Pelzer and Noah Jedlicka.  The Tigers were able to secure a spot at state by having one of the next eight best times statewide in the event.
At state this Thursday, Tipton will compete in three events and on Friday, two more.  Tipton will run in the 4X800-meter relay at state this Thursday at 5:50.  Tipton is in section 1.  Mesick will jump in the long jump on Thursday too at 2:00.  He is in flight 1 of the event.  The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team runs at 2:40.  Tipton is in heat 3, lane 5.
On Friday, the Tigers 4X4000-meter relay team will run on Friday night at 7:40.  The Tigers are in the first heat, lane 3.  Wes Zell will also compete Friday, running in the 110-meter high hurdles on Friday at 3:20 in heat 3, lane 3.

North Cedar send 5 events to state
The North Cedar Knight boy’s track team will send five events to the state meet this week in Des Moines.  The Knights placed 4th in the team race with 75 points.  The Knights advanced three relay events and two individual events.
North Cedar won the sprint medley relay with the team of Jacob Jensen, Miles McCullough, Greg Hansen and Seamus Raney in a time of 1:35.90 to set a new season best time.  The Knights got a good anchor leg from Raney to secure the win.
North Cedar added two runner-up finishes one each in the 4X200 and 4X100-meter relays.  In the 4X100-meter relay, Jacob Jensen, Bryce Bemer, Miles McCullough and Greg Hansen were second to Camanche in a time of 44.73.
North Cedar also placed second in the 4X200-meter relay with the team of Jensen, Bemer, Miles McCullough and Greg Hansen.  The Knights were second to Camanche in the event in a time of 1:32.58.
Bemer also qualified in the 200-meter dash after placing fourth in the event in a time of 23.07.  His time was one of the next eight best statewide, after the first and second placed entries are finished, thus, he qualified in the event on a wildcard for the event.
Raney also qualified individually with a wildcard, after placing third in the event in a time of 2:04.27.
North Cedar will have one event at state Thursday, two on Friday and two on Saturday.
On Thursday, North Cedar senior Bryce Bemer runs in the 200-meter dash prelims.  Bemer i sin heat 2, lane 2 in the 4:40 p.m. event.
On Friday, North Cedar has a pair of relay teams competing.  The Knights 4X200-meter relay team will run at 4:00 on Friday in the third section, lane two.  Later on Friday, at 6:40, North Cedar will compete in the 4X100-meter relay prelims.  North Cedar is in heat 3, lane 6.
On Saturday at 10:00 the Knights sprint medley relay team will compete in section 3, lane 6.  Then, at 11:20, Seamus Raney will run in the 800-meter run in section 1.

Reifert, Darting Qualify For State In a Pair of Events
The Wilton Beavers scored 54 team points at the meet and had two members of their team qualify for the state meet.  Senior Evan Reifert and teammate Buddy Darting combined to score 45.25 of the 54 team points by Wilton at the meet.
Reifert scored 27.25 points at the meet and qualified for the state meet in three of the four events he was in.  Reifert won the long jump with a best jump of 21-feet.  Reifert had two runner-up finishes in sprint events with one in the 200-meter dash and the other in the 400-meter dash.  Reifert was second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.23 and second in the 200-meter dash in 22.76.  His time in the 200-meter dash was .06 behind the winner of the event in a race that was very close.
Evan Reifert will compete in all three events on Thursday.  Reifert will run on Thursday at 4:40 in the 200-meter dash.  He is in heat 2, lane 3 of the event.  He is in a heat with Bryce Bemer of North Cedar.  He will run in the 400-meter dash on Thursday at 7:20.  He will run in the 400-meter dash in section 2, lane 5.  Reifert will also jump in the long jump at 2:00.  He is in Flight 2 and is the 8th jumper in the flight.
Darting scored 18 points at the meet.  Darting won the 3,200-meter run and was second in the 1,600-meter run to earn automatic entry in both events at this week’s state meet.  Darting ran to a first place finish in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:24.47.  Darting was second in the 1,600-meter run in 4:45.61.  Darting will run in the 3,200-meter run on Thursday at 3:50 and run in the 1,600-meter run on Saturday afternoon at 2:22.g
The Beavers top relay finish at the meet came from its 4X100-meter relay teams 4th place finish.  The team of Garrett Bohnsack, Chase Miller, Brian Stillman and Reifert finished in the time of 46.38.
