Tigers Place 5th, Score 56 team points at RVC Meet

BELLEVUE - The Tipton Tiger girl’s track and field team had quite a River Valley Conference meet last week.  The Tigers set new highs in points scored at a River Valley Conference meet and also set a placing high in the team race.  The Tigers placed 5th with 56 team points.  Their previous high team placing was a 6th place finish in 2016 and that was also the year they set a high in points scored at a RVC meet with 51.

The Tigers were not the only Cedar County team that enjoyed success at the RVC meet.  The North Cedar Knights placed second with 115.50 points to place behind meet champ Cascade who scored 157 points.  The Cougars have won all four RVC meets in the short 4-year conference history.  The Knights and Cougars were the only teams out of the 13-team membership that scored over 100 points.

Kofron Wins Pair of RVC titles

Tipton sophomore Jamie Kofron won a pair of River Valley Conference titles in the throwing events to pace the Tigers.  Kofron, who threw at the 2017 Drake Relays, won the shot put with a throw of 38-08.5 and the discus with a best throw of 116-07.5.

Bryanna Simmermaker nearly cracked the top-10 in the same events.  Simmermaker placed 11th in the shot put and 12th in the discus.

In individual events, Hunter Humphrey placed third in the 100-meter dash in 13.64.  Tiffany Schott placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.33.  Kenzie Mente claimed a pair of top-10 finishes with a third place finish in the 3,000-meter run (11:22.28) and 9th in the 1,500-meter run (5:23.56).

Other top-10 finishes were Amanda Smith, 7th in the 800-meter run, Kamryn Chapman, 10th in the 400-meter hurdles and Sommer Daniel, 10th in the 400-meter dash.

In relay events, the Tigers were led by two fifth place and two sixth place finishes.  The Tigers 4X100-meter relay team of Emily Hermsen, Sommer Daniel, Karlee Kamberling and Hunter Humphrey were fifth in 53.70.  The Tigers distance medley relay team of Tiffany Schott, Kamberling, Hermsen and Amanda Smith were 5th in 4:36.35.  

The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Samantha DeMoss, Brittney Ford, Ashlyn Curry and Schott were sixth in 1:13.  The Tigers 4x400-meter relay team of Daniel, Alyssa Ellijah, Kamberling and Hermsen were sixth in 4:26.92.

Knights Proesch Wins Three Events

North Cedar’s Grace Proesch won three individual events to claim three RVC titles.  Proesch won the 100-meter dash in 13.03, the 200-meter dash in 26.59 and the 400-meter dash in 58.36.  Proesch was on the Knights runner-up finishing 4X400-meter relay team.  Proesch’s time in the 400-meter dash vaulted her to the second fastest time in class 2A while she currently has the fourth fastest time in the 200-meter dash and the 14th fastest 100-meter dash time.

In field events, Darby Hawtrey won the high jump with a best jump of 5-feet, 3-inches.  Lexi Crist placed fourth in the event.  Kassidie Galloway was 7th in the long jump.  The Knights had two field events where they placed two in the top-10.  In the discus, Callie Meyer placed 4th (102-11) and Hannah Bachman placed 6th (98-4).  In the shot put, Nicole Sander placed 3rd (37-03) and Leah Crock placed 4th (35-04).

Other Knight top-10 individual finishes were Cassie Cox, 3rd in the 400-meter dash and 4th in the 200-meter dash; Sadie Brown 9th in the 800-meter run; Katie Thompson 10th in the 800-meter run; Carly Montz 8th in the 3,000-meter run; and Andrea Wachendorf 10th in the 100-meter hurdles.

In relay events, all of the relays were won by either Cascade or Monticello.  Cascade won five - 4x100, 4x200, sprint medley, distance medley, shuttle hurdle - and the Panthers won two - 4X400 and the 4X800.  North Cedar placed second in the 4X100, 4X400 and sprint medley.

The Knights 4X100-meter relay team of Brittyn Wilhau, Darby Hawtrey, Kiarra Musser and Lexi Crist were second in 52.80.  The Knights 4X400-meter relay team of Martha Jesuit, Cassie Cox, Tessa Fields and Proesch were second in 4:04.82.  The Knights sprint medley relay team of Wilhau, Tessa Fields, Jesuit and Cassie Cox were second in 1:54.97.

Beavers Nearly Set Point Mark For RVC Meets

The Wilton Beavers nearly set their highest point total for an RVC meet last week at the annual conference meet.  Wilton placed 8th with 42 team points.  That was almost high enough to beat their high point total of 42.5 points set at last year’s meet.  The 8th place finish equalled their highest finish at a River Valley Conference meet in the four years there has been a conference meet.

Wilton was led by Kortney Drake who won the only event for the Beavers in the long jump.  Drake had a best jump of 15-feet, 11-inches to win.  She also placed second in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.50.  Kaylee Ford had a pair of top-10 finishes in distance events.  Ford placed 4th in the 3,000-meter run in 11:28.82 and 8th in the 1,600-meter run in 5:22.90.  Linsey Ford also placed in the top-10 with a 7th place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.27.

The Beavers top relay finish came from their sprint medley relay team.  The team of McKinnley Pittman, Aubrey Putman, Linsey Ford and Kortney Drake in a time of 1:57.07.

Wildcats 12th At RVC Meet

The Durant Wildcats placed 12th at the conference meet with 17 points.  The Wildcats were led by a pair of Autumn Wolf top-10 finishes.  Wolf had the top Wildcat finish with a third place finish in the long jump.  Wolf had a best jump of 15-feet, 9-inches.  Wolf also placed 6th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:16.14.  Those finishes were the top Wildcat individual and field event finish.

The Wildcats had two relays finish 6th.  The Wildcats 4X100-meter relay team of Wolf, Kelly Alexander, Breanna Moeller and Amorae Myers were sixth in the time of 54.95.  The Wildcats also placed 6th in the 4X800-meter relay with the team of Tori Novinski, Heidi Wolf, Madison Howe and Ellie Berry in the time of 11:02.87.
