SOLON — For the third time in four seasons a River Valley Conference boy’s golf champion has been out of the RVC South. For the second time in three years, the West Branch Bears claimed the conference title. In the team race all seven of the South schools were in the top-8 team finishers. North Cedar was the lone North school to crack the top-5 with a third place finish.
West Branch won the meet by only two strokes over Wilton, 320 to 322. Monticello is the only RVC North team to win a team title in the league’s first four years, in 2016.
The medalist for the meet was Race Cuckler from Cascade with a score of 71. Jake Fratzke was the Elite team after shooting a score of 74. Other Elite team members were Trevor Thein (West Branch) 74, Duncan McCain (Mid-Prairie) 76, Connor Michels (Bellevue) 76 and Austin Beaver (West Liberty) 78.
Tipton placed 7th at the conference meet with a team score of 348. Landan Hill earned honorable mention honors after shooting an 18-hole score of 83. Hill shot a score of 41 on the first nine and 42 on the second nine holes. The rest of the Tipton scores were from Luke Becker 47-40 87, Zach Ford 45-42 87, Jacob Tischuk 49-42 91, Jake McDonald 44-48 92 and Trevor Brennan 45-53 98.
Wilton was led by Tyler Hartman who was a first team all-conference selection after a score of 81. Jared Townsend (83) and Nolan Leaton (84) were right behind Hartman, earning honorable mention all-conference honors. Other Wilton scores were Brock Hartley 49-45 94 and Brayton Wade 46-50 96.
Durant placed sixth at the RVC meet with a team score of 339. The Wildcats were led by three brothers who earned all-conference honorable mention honors. Lucas, Logan and Leo Callison all shot scores of 84 to pace Durant. Other Wildcat scores were Drake Jehle 45-42 87, Cole Miedema 43-45 88 and Luke Whitlock 47-43 90.
North Cedar placed third in the team race and were led by two first team all-conference players. Tanner Mullan led North Cedar and earned 1st team honors with a score of 79. Ethan Hill added a score of 81. Nick Dewell turned in honorable mention all-conference honors with a score of 82. Other North Cedar scores were Pavin Esbaum 45-43 88 and Cory Cox 47-48 95.
