Tigers Claim Second Meet Win With Highland Title

  RIVERSIDE — Behind five event wins, the Tipton girl’s track and field team claimed their second meet win of the season and second in a weeks time last Monday when they won the Highland co-ed meet title. There, the Tigers scored a team-high 113 points to beat two others that topped 100 points in Keokuk with 105 who finished second and Mid-Prairie with 101 who finished third.

  Three of the five event wins were from individuals while two were from relays. Junior Jamie Kofron won two events, the shot put and discus and Amanda Smith won the 1,500-meter run. Kofron set a new meet record in the shot put with a winning throw of 40-feet, eleven inches. She won the discus with a best throw of 115-feet, nine inches. Tipton junior Amanda Smith and freshman Kallie Wallick placed first and second in the 1,500-meter run. Smith won the event in a time of 5:45.24 and Wallick were second in 5:48.31.

  Tipton won two relay events. The Tigers distance medley relay team of Emily Hermsen, Rachel Bierman, Sommer Daniel, and Amanda Smith crossed the finish line first in a time of 4:43.58. The Tigers 4X400-meter relay team of Alyssa Elijah, Karlee Kamberling, Rachel Bierman and Sommer Daniel won the event in a time of 4:22.77.

  Other top-3 finishes for Tipton came from Allie Ryan in the shot put, Liz Bierman in the discus, Alyssa Elijah in the 400-meter dash, Amanda Smith in the 800-meter run and the Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Blake Ehler, Ashlyn Curry, Liz Bierman, and Tiffany Schott placed third in the event.

  Tipton will prepare for this week’s state qualifying meet at home, on Thursday. The meet starts at 4:00.
