WILTON — The Wilton Beavers began their run to the 2019 state baseball tournament on Tuesday, July 16 with a district game against Louisa-Mus- catine. Jared Townsend won his ninth straight start to improve to 9-0 in 47 2/3 innings. He lowered his ERA to 0.29 in the game. Townsend gave up one hit over ve innings. He struck out 12, walked three
and gave up one unearned run. Collin McCrabb pitched two innings in scoreless relief to earn the save. He struck out ve and walked no batters.
Wilton scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. An RBI single by Cory Anderson that scored Garrett Bohnsack and a McCrabb sac y for a RBI accounted for the two runs. Louisa-Muscatine scored their only run in the top of the fifth to cut the Beavers lead to 2-1. Wilton added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 3-1.
The Falcons stumbled down the stretch of the regular season. Louisa-Muscatine entered the game with only ve wins, one of them coming in the Falcons district opener in an 8-0 win over West Burlington at Wapello. Chase Kruse was 2-for-3 in the game to lead the Falcons. Louisa-Muscatine had a baserunner in the rst, fourth and fth innings before
Wilton retired the last seven batters, six by strikeout. Wilton had hits from Cory Anderson, McCrabb and Bray- ton Wade. Anderson and Mc Crabb hit doubles. Anderson, Bohnsack, and MccCrabb each had RBI’s. Wilton got six walks in the game o of Louisa-Mus- catine pitching by six di erent players. Anderson, Bohnsack, Brock Hartley, Chantz Stevens, Ashton Stoelk, and Wade all reached on walks.
