LOWDEN — It’s not every year that you get to play the top-ranked baseball team in the state. That was the case for North Cedar when they welcomed the top ranked team in Class 2A Wilton Beavers on Monday, June 24. North Cedar lost the match up by a score of 6-0. The Knights dropped their seventh game in a row with the loss.
The Knights had only one-hit in the ball game, a single by junior Ethan Sahr. North Cedar had one other player on base. Se- nior Devon Willis reached base via a walk.
Three North Cedar pitchers tried to corral the Beavers offense. Alex Woodward started and pitched three innings. He gave up one-run on four hits. Woodward struck out four, struck out no batters and used 51 pitches. Cole Taylor then pitched in relief, going 2 2/3 innings. He gave up three runs on three hits. Taylor struck out two, walked three and used 58 pitches. Tyler Thurston pitched in relief in part of the sixth inning and all of the seventh. He gave up two runs on one-hit. Thurston struck out three, walked one and used 22 pitches.
Wilton improved to 5-0 against River Valley Conference North teams. The Beavers have wins over Camanche, Cascade, Bellevue, Anamosa, and North Cedar now. The Knights fell to 1-4 against RVC South schools. The Knights only RVC South win was against Durant at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City, 6-1.
Collin McCrabb was the winning pitcher for Wilton. He struck out eight Knights and did not walk anyone. Mc- Crabb gave up only one-hit and needed 65 pitches in 4 2/3 innings of work. Cory Anderson pitched the nal 2 1/3 innings in scoreless relief. Anderson struck out two and walked one.
Wilton had eight hits in the game led by McCrabb and Ash- ton Stoelk who each had two hits. Stoelk had a home run and two RBI’s and McCrabb had a RBI.
The Knights doubleheader against Anamosa was postponed on Thursday, June 27 due to weather. At press time, the doubleheader had not been rescheduled. North Cedar hosted state ranked Cascade for their last RVC North doubleheader on July 2. North Cedar played West Branch July 3 in their last regular season game pending the Anamosa make-up.
Knights To Open Postseason At Bellevue
LOWDEN — The North Cedar Knight baseball team will begin postseason play on Saturday, July 13. The Knights will travel to Bellevue to play the Comets at 7:00 p.m. The North Cedar game will be the second game that night as Monticello will face Northeast at 5:00. If the Knights win, they would play Camanche, at Camanche at Dy- ersville-Beckman on July 16 at 5:00 in a district semifinal.
