TIPTON - The Tipton Tigers won their 10th game of the season last week after beating Durant 3-0 in the rst game of a conference doubleheader. The Tigers picked up two wins in four games last week and saw their record go to 10-10 in the 20 games they have played. The Tigers have won 10 or more games in ve of the last six years with a best of 16 wins in the 2016 season. The Tigers embark on a four-game week with four road games. The Tigers play at West Branch Tuesday night for an RVC doubleheader, Wednesday at RVC North foe Bellevue, and Friday at Class 1A No. 4 Calamus-Wheatland.
Syring’s Near-Perfect Game Against Anamosa Gives THS 9th Win
TIPTON — Tipton sophomore Cole Syring has had quite a season pitching this summer. Syring has reached career highs in starts (7) innings pitched (40 2/3), and ERA (1.89). Last Monday, Srying nearly pulled o perfection in the Tigers 5-0 win over RVC North foe Anamosa. The shut- out was the third this season for THS. The Tigers improved to 4-2 against teams from the River Valley Conference North this season having only lost to Camanche and Monticello.
Syring and the Tigers retired the rst 20 Raiders in the game, taking a perfect game into the top of the seventh. A Nolan McLean single with two outs in the seventh spoiled the perfect game and no-hit bid for Syring. Nick Howell came in and got the nal out, a yout, to end the game.
Anamosa freshman Eli Lehrman and sophomore Nolan McLean lead Anamosa at the plate and McLean collected the only hit in the game. Lehrman is the top Anamosa batter with a .378 average and 28 hits while McLean is second on the team in batting with a .306 average and 22 hits. Lehrman had no hits in three at-bats. The duo has combined to steal 25 bases this year. Neither would get a stolen base in the game with Tipton.
Syring improved to 2-4 in seven starts. He went 6 2/3 innings, struck out six, and walked no Raider batters. Nick Howell got the nal out on four pitches allowing no hits and no runs.
Tipton had eight hits in the game and had two players
with multi-hit games. Jacob Tischuk was 3-for-3 with two RBI’s, three stolen bases and a run scored. Luke Becker was 2-for-3 with a double and stolen base. Connor Hermiston, Peyton Gaertner, and Carter Hill all had hits. Hill had two stolen bases as the Tigers swiped nine steals in the game.
Tipton sent six batters to the plate in the rst inning and scored twice. Luke Becker reached base on a one-out single and scored later on an RBI single by Jacob Tischuk for a 1-0 lead. Trent Pelzer reached on a walk and scored later by stealing home to give Tipton a 2-0 lead. The Tigers scored three runs in the third to extend their lead to 5-0. The Tigers nearly batted around in the inning.
