Wildcats Get Big Home Win, 3-2 Over No. 10 Indians
DURANT — The Durant Wild- cats won the rst of six games scheduled last week at home over Class 3A No. 10 Caman- che. The Wildcats captured the tight 3-2 victory. Kamryn Meyer was the winning pitcher after seven innings of work. She struck out 13 and walked one batter. She surrendered only ve hits and gave up two runs in the game.
Durant scored the game’s rst runs with two in the bottom of the rst. That score stood until the Indians tied the game with two runs in the top of the third inning. That score stood until the bottom of the seventh when Durant scored the game-winning run to take the game 3-2. Durant had ve hits in the game led by Allie Poston who was 2-for-2. Ruby Kappeler, Jada Rock, and Kylie Schult each had hits. Mallory Warner had an RBI and Abby Rhoades had two stolen bases.
The state’s team leader in home runs did not hit one homer the entire game. Tarah Wehde took the loss, just her second in 16 starts this season.
Wildcats Beat Raiders In Anamosa, 5-1
ANAMOSA — Durant joined West Liberty as the only RVC South teams to beat Anamosa to date after the Wildcats won 5-1 over the Class 3A No. 8 team. The Wildcats won their second game in as many nights over a ranked Class 3A RVC team.
Durant took control of the game in the top of the first inning, scoring twice for a 2-0 lead. That score held until the top of the fourth when they doubled their lead to 4-0 with two runs. Anamosa scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth to set the score at 4-1. Durant added another run in the top of the seventh, putting the score at its final, 5-1.
Durant had ten hits in the game with three players getting multi-hit games. Ruby Kappeler and Paige Werthmann were each 2-for-3. Kappeler drove in two runs, had a double and a walk. Werthmann scored a run. Jada Rock was 2-for-4. Kamryn Meyer and Allie Poston also had hits and RBI’s. Meyer pitched a complete game and struck out 15 Anamosa batters. She gave up four hits and one- run holding the Raiders lineup, who has a team batting average of .375, down. Meyer shut down the top-2 Raider batters - 8th grader Emily Watters, and senior Jessie Frasher - allowing a combined 0-for-5 for the duo. Each has over 40 hits this year. The Wildcats gave Anamosa junior ace Kalli Minger just her third loss this season (17-3) in the game.

KALONA — The Durant Wildcats traveled to Mid-Prairie last Saturday for two games at the Mid-Prairie Tournament. There, they defeated West Bur- lington 10-0 in ve innings and beat Class 5A No. 11 Dubuque Hempstead 4-1. The Wildcats improved to 8-3 in 11-weekend tournament games this season.
Against West Burlington, Durant led 2-0 after four innings but took command of the game with an 8-run fth to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule. Kamryn Meyer pitched a complete game, 3-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks. Ruby Kappeler led the o ense, go- ing 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, three runs and three RBI’s. Jada Rock also had two hits and an RBI. Kylie Schult, Meyer, and Kylie Kay each had RBI hits in the game. Paige Werthmann had a hit and 2 RBI’s.
Against state ranked Hemp- stead, Durant won 4-1 in come- back fashion. Durant led 1-0 after scoring a run in the third. Hempstead tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fth inning. Durant took the lead for good in the bottom of the fth when they pushed three runs across home plate to set the score at 4-1. In the inning, sophomore Abby Rhoades came through with a pinch-hit, 2-run double as part of the three-run inning.
Durant had only four hits in the game by four di erent players. Abby Rhoades had a two-run double and Jada Rock had an RBI single. Kamryn Meyer and Kylie Schult had the other Wildcat hits.
