Beaver volleyball team wins postseason opener against Durant

WILTON — The Wilton Beaver volleyball team last played in the nals of the River Valley Conference volleyball tournament against West Liberty on October 17. Fast forward to October 28, their rst postseason game. The Beavers hosted Durant, a team they had beaten in the regular season 3-0 on October 1. The Beavers showed no signs of a long layo , beating the Wildcats 3-0 in part by not allowing the Wildcats to score over 15 points in any of the three sets. The Beavers improved to 33-3 with the win and advanced to play North Cedar in a Regional semi nal match. With the win, Wilton sat two matches away from returning to the state tournament. Wilton has not lost back-to-back- matches this season and often after a loss, a lengthy win streak has followed. The Beavers won the rst set 25-15 to take a 1-0 lead. Wilton won the second set 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead and completed the sweep with a 25-14 third set win.

Kelsey Drake and Taylor Garvin led in kills with 15 and nine. Ella Caffery had 19 assists and 11 digs to lead Wilton. Drake also had the co-lead in digs with 11 and added 11 assists. Wilton served 65-for-69 with 13 ace serves in the match. Five different Wilton players had an ace serve in the match with Ca ery getting six of those. Mallory Lange and Ca ery each had 14 successful serves in the match.
Ally Happ led Durant with six kills, 15 digs and served 7-for-8 in the match. Shannon Head and Kira Schult each had four kills. Meg Koenig had 14 assists and Schult and Happ each had a team high 15 digs. Durant served 41-for-45 in the match. Koenig led, going 11-for-12.

The Wildcats end the season 10 and 22. The Wildcats will say goodbye to four seniors this year. They are Meg Koenig, Danielle Paulsen, Kira Schult, and Gabrielle Olsen.
