Tigers Go Back To State Meet For First Time Since 2007

FORT DODGE — The Tipton girl’s cross-country team ran at the state meet as a program for the rst time since 2007 last Saturday in Fort Dodge. The Tigers were among the 15 teams in the Class 2A eld. There, the Tigers placed 13th in the team standings, scoring 320 points. The meet was run under temperatures of 40-de- grees and cloudy skies.

Mid-Prairie claimed the state championship-winning the 15-team race with 61 points. The Golden Hawks entered the state meet ranked No. 2. Williamsburg, ranked No. 1 going into state, placed second with 62 points. The Raiders and Mid-Prairie finished first and second at the state qualifying meet in Williamsburg late last month. A second River Valley Conference school, Monticello, placed third with 130 points.

The Tigers had one runner in the top-25. That runner was junior Kallie Wallick. Wallick earned All-State honors at the 2018 state meet, and made it to two straight state meets. Wallick placed 23rd at

this year’s state meet in a time of 20:45. Alyssa Mente placed 45th in 21:27 to give Tipton two, top- 50 nishers. Coryn Wallick placed 68th in 22:03 followed by Rachel Bierman 89th in 23:04, Alli Nash 95th in 23:30, Ashlynn Curry 104th in 25:22, and Britney Ford 105th in 26:51.

Four different River Valley Conference runners placed in the top-15 to earn All-State honors. Mid-Prairie senior Marie Hostetler won the Class 2A title, crossing the nish line first in 17:58. Monticello freshman Emma Altho was eighth in 19:22, West Liberty senior Jimena Fierro Perez placed tenth in 19:39 and Mid-Prairie junior Ana Fleming placed 15th in 19:46.

The Tigers will return five runners next year that ran at the state meet. Back next year will be current juniors Alli Nash, Kallie Wallick, and Rachel Bierman; current freshman Coryn Wallick, and current sophomore Alyssa Mente. The Tigers also have their highest finish at the River Valley Conference, fourth, to take into next season. The Tiger program will also have a group of eighth-graders moving up as well as returners Becca Stroup and Liz Bierman back as well.

The Tigers finished the season ranked 13th in the nal Class 2A rankings. The Tigers began the season ranked No. 20 then fell out of the rankings for three weeks. The Tigers re-entered the rankings in

week 5, or the October 1st rankings, checking back in at No. 19. The Tigers would spend two weeks at No. 20 before going up in the rankings and finishing their highest place of the season in the final rankings on October 29.

Hunter Jones Places 11th
FORT DODGE — Two North Cedar runners ran at the state meet. Freshman Hunter Jones and junior Kiley Chapman each qualified as individuals out of their state qualifying meet in Iowa City. Jones would turn in a time of 19:50 to place 11th and earn All-State honors. Chapman would place 41st in a time of 20:50. Both return next year to lead the Knight squad.
Logan-Magnolia won the Class 1A state title with 112 points. Hudson was second with 133 points and AHSTW, Avoca was third with 142 points. RVC member Iowa City Regina placed fth in the team standings with a team score of 150. Peyton Pogge from Tri-Center won the 1A race in a time of 18:45.
