IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa junior Jayah Mathews has been selected as the Big Ten Diver of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the league office. It is Mathews' first honor of the season and the Hawkeyes' seventh weekly award on the year.
The Australia native earned the distinction after posting two top-three finishes in Iowa's dual against Michigan on Nov. 1. Mathews won the 1-meter springboard with a score of 322.20 and she finished third off the 3-meter with a 319.40.
Both scores are NCAA Zone Diving standards and Mathews' 1-meter mark was a season-best. The honor is the sixth of Mathews' career. She was a three-time Big Ten Diver of the Week as a sophomore and she was awarded a Big Ten Diver and Freshman of the Week in 2017-18.
The Hawkeyes return to action Friday, hosting Rutgers at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
