MARION — It was a special regional meet for the THS swimmers last Saturday at Linn-Mar High School. There, the Tigers were able to qualify four events for the 2019 state swimming meet this Saturday in Marshalltown, and break two school records. The state events going are the 200-freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay, the 400-freestyle relay, and an individual event. The events going, mark the second straight year that multiple events have qualified for the state meet. It’s the first time since the run of 2003-2009 that Tipton has had state events in back to back years. Also a first since 2008 for an individual event qualifier. Junior Maddie Swick qualified for the state in the 100-yard butterfly and broke one of the two school records at the meet. The Tigers broke the school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay and set six seasons best times at the meet.

Tipton had big time drops in all three relay events that are going to state. The relay events qualified
for the state as having one of the best times of the 32 teams they take to state. The Tigers claimed the school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Rhyan Hoefler, Ali Anderson, Maddie Swick, and Zoe Stonebraker placed sixth at the regional meet in 3:50.71. That time was shattered their previous season-best time of 4:00.66 by nearly ten seconds. The time also set a new school record. The previous record was set in 2006 with the team of Amanda Gavin, Merrit Suchomel, Alicia Goetz, and Alex Proctor in 3:53.64.

The same quartet of girls swam in the 200-yard freestyle relay in the same order and nearly broke the school record in the event. The Tigers placed sixth in the event at the Regional meet in 1:44.18. The school record is 1:44.01. The Tigers set a season-best time in the event as their previous season-best was 1:48.07. The Tigers medley relay team of Ali Anderson, Zoe Stonebraker, Maddie Swick, and Rhyan Hoefler placed sixth in 1:57.55. The team set a season-best in the event. Their previous season-best time was 1:59.20.

Maddie Swick placed 5th in the 100- yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.81. That time nearly got her to state reaching the automatic qualifying standard time of 59.90 as her time was almost a second behind. However, Swick earned a spot at state for having a next fastest time statewide in the event. That time set a new Tipton school record in the event. The previous record was set in 2007 by Alex Proctor in a time of 1:01.61. The time also set Swick’s time in the event as a new season-best. Her previous best time was 1:03.25. Rhyan Hoe er also set a new season-best time in the 200-yard freestyle with a 7th place nish in 2:04.57.

Junior Kayley Clark turned in her best meet of the 2019 season. Clark had an exceptional meet, shatter- ing her best times in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. At the Regional meet, she placed 12th in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:15.37 and 15th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:17.07. Her best time in the 500-free was 6:29.10, just under a full 14-second drop. Her rst time this season, back on August 29 in a Tipton win over Clinton, Clark had a season opening time of 6:55.09. A nearly full 40 second time drop overall. At the Regional meet, she placed 15th in 2:17.07. Her rst time in the event this fall in August was 2:37.09, a full 20-second drop in time.

Webb came into the meet with the best time in the event in 2:43.18. At the meet Saturday, she placed 13th in 2:35.66, nearly a ten second time drop.
