CASCADE — Though the two teams played three days earlier on July 10, North Cedar met Cascade on Monday, July 13. There, the Cougars would need 11 innings to defeat the Knights from North Cedar, 5-4. The Cougars advanced along the Class 2A tournament trail and improved to 6-9. The Knights close the season 2-11. North Cedar will say goodbye to seniors

North Cedar scored the first runs of the game. The Knights broke a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead. The Knight’s extended their lead to 3-0 with a run in the top of the sixth. Cascade rallied, scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth and scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
The Knights scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, but Cascade answered with the tying run in the bottom of the ninth to set the score at 4-4. The game stayed tied until the bottom of the 11th when the Cougars pushed the winning run across the plate to win 5-4.
North Cedar had 10 hits in the game and had three players with multi-hit games. Kendall Smith, Alyssa Hefflefinger, and Emma Boleyn each had two hits to lead North Cedar. Other hits came from Carly Meier, Kayla Syring, Jenna Syring, and Sam Koth.
Alyssa Hefflefinger started the game and pitched eight innings. She struck out six, walked one and gave up three runs on four hits. Kendall Smith pitched the final 2 ⅓ innings in relief and took the loss. She struck out four, walked one and gave up two runs on one hit.
Knights Fall Behind Early In Regular Season Finale
CASCADE — The North Cedar softball team couldn’t come back from being down 2-1 early, falling to the Cascade Cougars 3-2 in the regular season finale for both teams on Friday, July 10.
North Cedar scored first with a run in the first inning. Kassidie Galloway scored on an error after singling to start the game. Cascade scored twice in the bottomof the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Cougars added a run in the fourth to extend their lead to 3-1. North Cedar cut the Cougar lead in half with a run in the top of the fifth. Kendall Smith scored on a double by Carly Meier.
North Cedar had six hits in the game. Kendall Smith led North Cedar at the plate going 2-for-4. Other North Cedar hits came from Kassidie Galloway, Carly Meier, Jenna Syring, and Emma Boleyn. Kendall Smith took the loss after six innings. Smith struck out eight and walked three. Smith gave up three runs on five hits.
