TIPTON — The Tipton softball team snapped a five-game losing streak last Monday when the Tigers hosted Bellevue for senior night. Tipton saluted its four seniors this year - Britney Ford, Kamryn Chapman, Morgan Wendel, and Grace Nichols - and gave the hometown fans plenty to cheer about with a 13-3 win in six innings. The Tigers had a season high 17 hits in the game. The Tigers improved their series record against the Comets to 6-5 in the last 11 meeting between the two schools. Tipton has won three straight games over Bellevue.
Tipton trailed 1-0 after Bellevue after the opening half inning. Tipton responded in a big way with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Tipton batted around in their order, sending ten batters to the plate. After the Comets got the first out of the inning, Tipton had consecutive hits from Britney Ford, Kamryn Chapman, and Grace Nichols. Nichols had a 2-run triple in the inning to give THS their first lead, 2-1. Avary Calonder, Madison Meier, Madelyn Ham, and Sydney Barton also had hits in the inning.
Tipton led 5-2 after the second inning and extended their lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning. The Comets scored a run in the fifth to get within 6-3, but Tipton put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring five runs to take an 11-3 lead. The Tigers ended the game by the 10-run mercy rule with a two-run sixth.
Morgan Wendel was the winning pitcher after starting and working six innings She gave up three runs on four hits and struck out four batters.
Tipton had five players with multi-hit games. Grace Nichols was 4-for-5 and was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Nichols had two singles, a double, and a triple and drove in four runs. Madelyn Ham and Kamryn Chapman each had three hits and Britney Ford and Madison Meier each had two hits Ham and Delaney Fitch each had two RBI’s.
Bellevue had five hits by five different players.Taylor Deppe had a single and RBI and Adyson Nemmers drove in a run. Erin Sprank took the loss after starting and going 4 ⅔ innings. She gave up 11 runs and struck out two batters. Paige Mohr pitched the final ⅔ innings in relief.
Tigers Can’t Contain Monticello In 14-0 Loss
TIPTON — The Tipton softball team took a tough loss at home to Monticello on Thursday, July 2. The Tigers were looking to win back-to-back games for the second time this season.
The Panthers beat the Tigers 14-0 in five innings.
Monticello scored two runs in the first inning and didn’t look back from there. The Panthers extended their lead to 7-0 with a five-run top of the second inning.
The Panthers sent eight players to the plate in the inning. Monticello scored a run in each of the third and fourth innings to take a 9-0 lead. The Panthers put the game away with a 5-run top of the fifth to set the score at its final of 14-0.
The Panthers had 12 hits in the game led by four players with multi-hit games. Tori McDonald
and Katire Roher each had three hits to lead Monticello. McDonald and Lainey Fellinger each drove in three runs. Monticello had six doubles in the game. Mallory Steiner was the winning pitcher in the game after working five innings. She gave up two hits and struck out eight Tiger batters.
Morgan Wendel took the loss after working five innings. She gave up 14 runs on 11 hits and struck out four batters. Grace Nichols and Madelyn Ham had the hits for the Tigers. Sydney Barton and Kamryn Chapman each reached base via walks.
