Tiger baseball team drops three games in a row

 TIPTON — The Tipton baseball team lost three in a row last week after beating Anamosa at home on June 26. The Tigers played and lost games to Bellevue, Center Point-Urbana, and Monticello. Tipton’s record slipped to 5-6 with the losses.
 

Two Bad Innings Helps Monticello Get Win On Senior Night
 TIPTON — The Tipton baseball team welcomed the Monticello Panthers to town for senior night. The Panthers proved to be unkind guests, taking a 9-2 win over the hometown Tigers on their senior night. The Tigers defense had six errors in the game and the Tiger offense had three hits.
 Tipton tied the score at 1-1 in the second inning, but fell behind 5-1 after a four-run third by the Panthers. Tipton scored their other run in the bottom of the third, cutting the Panther lead to 5-2, but Monticello scored the final four runs of the game, including three runs in the top of the six to set the score at 9-2.
 Cole Syring was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Elliot Cummins had a hit and reached base via a walk. Tipton used five pitchers in the game. Kael Jauron started and took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits. Brady Connor, Trent Pelzer, Jack Boldt, and Caden Schmidt all pitched in relief.

Change Of Venue Doesn’t Help Tigers In 12-0 Loss At CPU
 CENTER POINT — The Tiger baseball team traveled to Center Point-Urbana on Wednesday, July 1 for a non-conference game with the Stormin’ Pointers. There, the Tigers fell 12-0 in five innings to their WaMac foe. The game was scheduled to take place in Tipton, but rainy and wet conditions forced the game to be moved.
 CPU broke open a 1-0 game with a four-run second inning to take a 5-0 lead. CPU scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, and ended the game by the 10-run mercy rule with a four-run fifth to set the score at its final, 12-0.
 Cole Syring, Elliott Cummins, Kayden Rezac, and Davis Webb all pitched for the Tigers. The quartet struck out six and walked six CPU batters. They combined to give up six hits and 12 runs, five of which were earned.
 The Tigers had a tough time hitting in the game, collecting two hits on two Kayden Rezac singles. Caden Schmidt, Kael Jauron each reached base by drawing walks.
 

Tigers Begin Week with 8-2 Loss To Bellevue
 TIPTON — The Tipton Tiger baseball team started the week with an 8-2 loss to Bellevue on Monday, June 29. The Tigers fell behind 5-0 after the top of the first inning and could not recover. The Comets evened their record against the Tigers to 4-4 in their last eight games.
 Tipton scored their first of two runs in the bottom of the third inning, cutting the Comets lead to 5-1. Bellevue scored a run in the fourth for a 6-1 lead and scored twice in the top of the sixth to take an 8-1 lead. The Tigers scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the sixth. The Tigers improved to 5-7 while Bellevue fell to 3-6.
 Caden Schmidt started the game and took the loss. He gave up five runs and walked three. Peyton Gaertner pitched 6 ⅔ innings in relief giving up three runs on three hits while striking out five.
Tipton had five hits in the game by five different players. Peyton Gaertner and Nile Schuett had doubles and a RBI in the game. Other Tipton hits came from Trent Pelzer, Cole Syring, and Kayden Rezac.
Bellevue had three hits by three different players. Andrew Swartz and Paxton Felderman each had hits and a RBI. Swartz got the win in seven innings giving up five hits and struck out two.
