TIGERS TAKE OUT LOUISA-MUSCATINE 47-8 IN WEEK 2

LETTS — The Tipton football team used a big second half to take control of their final non-district game at Louisa-Muscatine last Friday in a 47-8 victory.  The Tigers outscored the Falcons 34 to 2 in the second half.  Tipton moves to 2-0 and looks ahead to district play this Friday at Clayton Ridge.  The Falcons fall to 0-2.  The Tigers scored points on six of their seven second half possessions and had 205 yards of total offense in the second half to help in the win.
The Tiger offense was efficient the whole game.  Tipton had 11 full possessions in the football game and scored on eight of them with seven touchdowns and a safety.  The Tigers puntedtwice in the first half and saw their first drive of the football game end on a fumble.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter.  Louisa-Muscatine took advantage of a Tipton fumble at the Falcon 35-yard line early in the game and used a quick strike drive to score the game’s first points.
After crossing mid-field, Falcon quarterback Jake Hillard found wide receiver Austin Leopard, who beat his man, for a 38-yard touchdown pass.  A successful two-point conversion put the score at 8-0 with 5:50 left in the opening quarter.
Tipton answered with an 11-play, 70-yard drive, chewing up nearly five minutes of the quarter with the result, a Brendon Claussen 12-yard touchdown run to get the Tigers on the scoreboard and put the game at 7-6.
The Tigers took the lead for good with 8:22 left before halftime when Dalton Clark scored his first touchdown of the season, a 9-yard touchdown run to give Tipton a 13-5 lead.
Tipton swung momentum their way to stay early in the third quarter.  After punting on their first drive, the Tigers held the Falcons and forced them into a third and 10 at their 28.  Falcon quarterback Jake Hillard dropped back and let a pass fly, but Tipton senior Dillon McCollough steped up and picked off the pass and returned it for 16 yards to the L+M 28-yard line.  On the very next play, quarterback Ben Emrich connected with McCollough for a 28-yard touchdown strike, giving Tipton a 19-6 lead.  The Tigers gave up a safety late in the third quarter and the score was 19-8 after three quarters.
With 8:46 left in the fourth quarter Emrich connected with McCollough again for a 27-yard touchdown pass to push the score two 25-8.
Tipton then created a turnover with 5:41 left in the game when Ben Emrich scooped up a Hunter Connor fumble and scored, rambling 31 yards to the end zone giving Tipton a 32-8 lead after a Zach Ford PAT.
Quinten Mesick subbed in for Dalton Clark late in the game and scored two touchdowns, one from 21 yards out and another from 32 yards out to put the final score at 47-8.  Tipton scored 28 points in the final quarter of the football game.
Tipton had 19 first downs and 348 yards of total offense including 268 yards rushing.  The Tigers had four players rush for more than 40 yards in the game.  Dalton Clark rushed for a team high 75 yards and 1 touchdown.  Quinten Mesick rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns in the second half and Brendon Claussen rushed for 43 yards and scored a touchdown.

Sturms had 34 yards.  Jake Hillard passed for 81 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game due to injury.  Zach Bieri passed for 54 yards in the second half.  Austin Leopard caught five passes for 75 yards and scored a touchdown.

Defensively, Louisa-Muscatine’s C.J. Sturms had 15 tackles including 10 solo tackles.  Trayven Butler had 8 tackles including five solo tackles.  He also recovered a fumble and had a tackle for loss netting minus-13 yards.
The Tigers get ready for district play Friday when they travel to Clayton Ridge.  The Tigers last played Clayton Ridge in 2013 when they lost 30-0 at home.  Clayton Ridge leads 1A district 3 in passing through two non-district games with 405 yards on 21 completions and is fourth, one spot below Tipton, in rushing yards with 299 with a 6.1-yard average per carry.
