CASCADE — The North Cedar Knights nearly knocked off the 6th ranked team in class 2A on their home court last Friday, falling 41-39 at Cascade. The Knights, coming off of a lopsided road win three days earlier at Iowa Valley packed a lot of confidence for their trip to Cascade. That confidence was on display early, as the Knights outscored the Cougars 12-7 in the first quarter to take a five-point lead. Cascade responded, outscoring the Knights 15-10 in the second quarter to tie the score at 22 at halftime.
Adjustments were made at halftime, but the game remained close. North Cedar was only outscored by two points in the second half, 19 to 17, but those two points were enough for the Cougars to slip by with a victory. The Knights trailed 34-33 after three quarters. The margin of victory was the closest this season for a game involving Cascade, win or lose. It was the closest game with an RVC North foe this season too.
The Cougars beat the Knights 47-33 at Clarence early in the season, and with the win sweeps the season series with North Cedar.
North Cedar had 15 made baskets and drilled four three-pointers in the game. The Knights had 34 rebounds, 12 assists, and 5 steals. The Knights were led in scoring by Lexi Crist with 18 points and Darby Hawtrey with 8. Nicole Sander scored 7 points off the bench.
