CEDAR RAPIDS — The Tipton boy’s basketball team finished a three-game week with two wins in three games to improve to 10-5 overall. The Tigers also sit at 8-4 in the River Valley Conference. The Tigers will host West Branch Tuesday. The Bears are two games back from the Tigers in the RVC standings. Tipton will then be off until Saturday when they play North Cedar. Tipton will travel to Durant on January 23. The Wildcats are close behind in the RVC standings, one game back in the loss column as of Tuesday, January 16.

Ranked Rebels Pull Away From Tigers In Second Half
CEDAR RAPIDS — The Tigers played in the first Wells Fargo Advisors Shootout Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. There, a familiar opponent was waiting in NE Goose Lake. The Rebels were fresh off of their first loss of the season against Cascade the previous Tuesday. The Rebels didn’t shot any ill effects though, breaking open a close 6-point game at halftime by outscoring the Tigers 34 to 19 in the second half of a 61-40 victory. The Rebels started the season 10-0 before the loss to the Cougars on January 9.

Logan Hoffman led Tipton in scoring with 21 points. No other Tipton player had more than six points. Luke Becker scored six points on two three-pointers while Andrew Stewart and Frank Bierman each scored 4 points. Stewart scored all of his points in the fourth quarter. Jacob Tischuk scored 3 points and Bryce Deerberg 2.

NE Goose Lake held the Tigers to only 14 rebounds in the game. Bierman led the Tigers with 7. He also led Tipton in steals with two. The Tigers struggled from the three-point line in the game, making only 2-of-17 attempts. The Tigers were 8-for-11 from the free throw line in the game.

Tipton had a tough first quarter, trailing 18-5 after the opening frame. The Tigers didn’t score their first point of the game until the game clock showed under 3-minutes in the first quarter. The Tigers rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Rebels 16 to 9 to cut a 13-point deficit to six at halftime, 27-21.

Northeast outscored the Tigers by 11 in the third, 17-6 which gave them a 44-28 lead after three quarters. The Rebels and Tigers played close in the final quarter 17-13, but the Rebel lead was too large and the Tigers points were not enough to make up the deficit.

Three Rebels scored in double figures. Dawson Stoll led Northeast Goose Lake with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. He made four three-pointers, including a half-court buzzer beater at the end of the third. Luke Empen gave Tipton trouble under the basket, the 6-6 post, scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds including four offensive rebounds. Braeden Hoyer also hit for double figures, scoring 13 of his 15 points in the second half of the victory. Hoyer added 13 rebounds for a double-double. The Rebels had 37 rebounds as a team to go with 17 assists and 6 steals.

Tigers top 70 points for the second straight game in West Liberty Win
WEST LIBERTY — The Tipton boy’s basketball team scored over 70 points for the second time in a week, in a 77-44 win over West Liberty last Friday. The Tigers scored 81 points in an 81-63 win over Mid-Prairie last Tuesday. The 77 points made it six times over 70 points in 14 games. The victory gave the Tigers two wins over the Comets this season. Tipton beat West Liberty on December 19, 66-45 in the Tigers last game before Christmas.

Tipton took a 10-8 lead after the first quarter. Like the last time the two teams met, Tipton broke open a close game after one quarter to get a lopsided win. The same thing happened last week. Tipton used a 21-10 second-quarter run to take a 31-18 halftime lead. The Tigers kept the momentum going in the second half, scoring 46 points to the Comets 26.

THS senior Logan Hoffman scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds. Luke Becker scored 18 points, going 6-for-9 from the three-point line in the game. Jacob Tischuk also reached double figures, scoring 11 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Tipton made 25 shots from the field and shot 11-for-21 from the three-point line. Five different Tigers made a three-pointer in the game. Trent Pelzer scored 9 points off the bench. The Tigers had 36 rebounds as a team. After Hoffman, Frank Bierman had 7.

Brent Meyers and Seth Feldman reached double digits with 12 and 10 points. Tanner Iske and Spencer Daufeldt each had 9 points.
