Crowley joined teammate Ben Emrich in the 100-win club for his career. Crowley saw his win total for the year increased to 32 after the duals Saturday.
Tipton’s win came against Mediapolis in a 31-30 victory. Nolan Ohrt won by forfeit at 195 to give Tipton a 6-0 lead to start the dual. An 11-1 major decision by Austin Lenz at 106 and a forfeit win by Kaleb Mesick at 113 gave Tipton a 16-6 lead. Both teams had 120 and 126 open. John Crowley bumped up to 132 to wrestle Reese Thornburg at 132 and Crowley won an 8-6 decision to give Tipton a 19-6 lead. Mediapolis took control of the match, winning the next four matches, three by pin and one forfeit win by #3 ranked Brennan Swafford at 160.
Tipton would pull the dual out with two forfeit wins, one at 170 by Levi Mohr and another by Dylan Mente at 182 to set the final score at 31-30.
Tipton faced the third-ranked Class 1A team in the team rankings from The Predicament. The Cyclones have seven ranked wrestlers and six were in action against the Tigers. Tipton’s Austin Lenz started the dual with an upset over 6th ranked Brooks Meyer in a 6-0 decision match. Tipton trailed 9-3 after three matches, but a tech fall by John Crowley at 126 gave the Tigers five points in an 18-2 win in 4:00 and set the score at 9-8 Denver. Tipton would not win another match in the dual as Denver rattled off 57 straight points helped by seven pins and two forfeit victories. Brandon Hines (132), Lucas Barnum (152), Dylan Mente (170) and Jessie Lieser (285) all wrestled against top-10 ranked wrestlers in the dual.
Sioux City East beat the Tigers 60-21. Sioux City East won the first six matches to take a 36-0 lead, five of which by pin. Jessie Lieser won the first match of the dual, a 5-3 overtime victory over Patrick Conley. Lieser trailed 3-0 before tying the match at 3 and winning it with an overtime takedown. Austin Lenz then pinned Kamron Bergenske at 106 in 3:01 and Tipton had nine straight points to set the score at 36-9. Trailing 42-9, Tipton won back-to-back matches at 120 and 126 when Ben Emrich pinned Rafe McClendon in 1:05 and John Crowley pinned Cole Wilcox in 4:12. Those wins set the score at 42-21 with three matches left. Tipton did not get another victory in the dual.
Tipton lost to North Fayette Valley 47-24. The Tigers won four matches in the dual, two by pin and two by forfeit. Dylan Mente pinned Chase Cooley in 2:43 at 182 to begin the dual. The Tigers tied the dual at 12 and took a brief 18-12 lead with back-to-back wins by forfeit by Austin Lenz and Kaleb Mesick. The Tigers took a 24-12 lead with John Crowley pinned Dylan Lerch in 0:25 at 126. The Tigers would not score again as North Fayette Valley would win the next six matches and end the dual on a 35-0 run.
The Tigers won five matches against Stewartville, Minnesota. Chance Koch started the dual with a pin in 3:02 at 145 to give Tipton a 6-0 lead. A Dylan Mente pin over Caden King at 170 tied the match at 12-12. Kaleb Mesick got a pin at 106 and Ben Emrich and John Crowley each got decision victories for the other Tiger wins.
Tipton will be back on the mat twice this week. Thursday when they travel to Wilton to face Durant, Mid-Prairie and the host Wilton Beavers. The Tigers will travel to Wellman Saturday for the River Valley Conference meet. Sectional meets are a week later, Saturday, February 3 in Solon.
