WILTON — The Wilton Beaver football team got what they wanted last Friday.  First an foremost a district win and second, a chance to reach the playoffs.  The first was likely and the second was a little tougher, especially after the beavers 41-17 loss at Regina three weeks ago.  The Beavers won their seventh game of the season, a 54-0 victory over Van Buren to set up a winner-take all game Friday, at Sigourney.  The win was the third shutout of the season for the Beaver defense.  Wilton went over the 300-point scoring mark for the season.
Wilton put the game out of reach early, scoring 34 first quarter points to take control of the football game early.  Wilton scored on five possessions in the first quarter.  Bryce Oveson scored the first of his three first quarter touchdowns for the first points of the game.  Oveson’s 3-yard run, 58 seconds into the game gave Wilton a 7-0 lead.
Oveson’s score started a run of points that included Oveson touchdown runs of 6 and 20 yards, a Jerome Mays 52-yard sprint and a 40-yard touchdown pass from Jerome Mays to Evan Reifert.
Wilton scored twice in the second quarter to push the score to 48-0 at halftime.  WIlton got subs in the game early.  Backup quarterback Brock Hartley passed for his first touchdown pass of the season, a 5-yard score to Chantz Stevens with 11:54 left in the first half.  Mays found Kaleb Timmsen for a 48-yard scoring pass with 7:28 left before halftime.
Stevens would score the only Beaver points in the second half, with a 22-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Wilton had 449 yards of total offense on 18 first downs.  Wilton had 275 rushing yards and 174 passing yards.  Van Buren had only 90 yards and three first downs.
Jerome Mays completed 4-of-5 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.  Hartley passed for 44 yards on 6-of-9 attempts with a touchdown.  Try Brisker rushed for a team high 81 yards on six carries.  Bryce Oveson rushed for 67 yards on eight carries.  Three of those carries went for touchdowns.
Three Beavers caught touchdown passes in Evan Reifert, Chantz Stevens and Kaleb Timmsen.  Reifert had the most receiving yards, 71 and Stevens and Derek McQuillen tied for the most receptions in the game with three.
Defensively, Trey Brisker led in tackles with 6, followed by Bryce Oveson, Chase Miller, Jared Townsend and Tyler Hartman with five each.
Wilton will travel to Sigourney-Keota Friday to play the Savage Cobras.  Both teams are 7-1 overall and 5-1 in district play.  Both teams have lost to top-ranked Iowa City Regina in Iowa City and have that as their only loss.  The winner of the football game will clinch the second playoff spot out of district 4.
