Tipton freshman Sommer Daniel taps over a kill attempt past two Iowa City Regina players last week in Iowa City.  The Tigers sit atop the River Valley South and can win their first conference title in school history tonight at home if they can get past 16-8 West Branch.  The Tigers enter the match 21-7 and ranked #15 in 2A.  Photo by Ryan Stonebraker.

TIPTON — On the afternoon of the biggest volleyball match in recent memory, the Tipton volleyball team remained ranked in the latest class 2A IGHSAU rankings released this afternoon. The Tigers enter tonight’s RVC regular season and RVC South finale with West Branch with an overall record of 21-7. The Tigers remain ranked #15 a week after entering the 2A rankings last week at the same slot. The Tigers earned a ranking in the 2A top-15 late in the 2015 season as well.
The Tigers join fellow Cedar County school North Cedar in the latest rankings. The Knights remain at #8 for the second straight week. Below are this week’s rankings.
The Tipton athletic asks all fans to use common sense tonight at the match. From Tipton athletic director Troy Smock:
We have a really big night tonight in volleyball. We’d love to see many of you there and dressed in Pink to support the team and Breast Cancer Awareness. There will be opportunities to donation throughout the games. All funds raised will go to Susan Komen Foundation. Besides this cause it is also Senior Night where we will recognize our 4 girls on their accomplishments on and off the court over their careers. With all that being said we are asking that you do not distract from the game. Even someone thinking they are just having fun dressing up in costume or as a clown could cause a disruption and panic for some of the kids and families coming to watch the game. We will not allow any clowns or costumes into the school tonight. You will be instructed to leave. We want our crowd to be loud, positive, and enhance the atmosphere in the gym. They should not overshadow what is happening on the court for the Seniors, those affected by Cancer, or the efforts the 2 teams play with tonight. Our girls are playing for the RVC South title and a chance to host the Conference tournament next week so there is a lot on the line. Tonight is about the team, the seniors and those affected by Cancer. I have been really proud of our student section so far this year. You guys have been great, so wear Pink be loud and cheer the Tigers to their first RVC Volleyball Title in school history!!
The Tigers are atop the River Valley Conference South standings with a 4-1 record against South opponents and 6-1 in all RVC matches. West Branch comes into the match 2-3 in RVC South matches and 16-8 overall.
