Tigers Place 4th At State Meet

GRANGER — The Tipton Tiger girl’s golf team placed fourth last week at the state golf meet.  The 2017 girl’s golf meet took place at Jester Park Golf Course in Granger, Iowa.  There, the Tigers shot a two-day total of 757 to place fourth in class 2A.  Treynor won the state meet with a team score of 698 followed by Emmetsburg with a score of 745 and Alta/Aurelia with 745.  The Tigers were 12 strokes out of tying for second.
The Tigers were among the class 2A state leaders all season.  Tipton was third in 2A this season in 9-hole ave. for the top four players with a 197.14 average.  For the state meet, Tipton was under their average in three of the four rounds, including a season low 183 on one of the rounds in day 2.  The Tigers were 7th in class 2A in 18-hole ave. top four players total with an average of 398.  The Tigers were under that score as well at the state meet with a day one total of 385 and a day two total of 372.
Like all season, the Tigers were close together in total scores.  The Tigers had all five players finish in the top-50 and three finish in the top-25 overall finishers.  Tiger senior Kailee Meyer placed 17th overall to lead the way.  Meyer had a score of 185.  Three Tipton golfers were in the 20’s with Addy Duwe 24th with a 189, Brittany Huinker 25th with a 191 and Rylee Conrad 27th with a 192.  Mara Jauron placed 42nd with a score of 214.
Day one of the state meet was tough on the Tigers as they got used to the Jester Park Course.  Day one team scores were 198 on the first nine holes and 187 on the back nine holes.  All but one of the Tigers lowered or were event to their score from the first nine to the second nine holes.  The Tigers first day score had them in fifth place.  Treynor shot a day one score of 250, 22 strokes ahead of Sumner-Fredericksburg and Alta/Aurelia with 372.  
On day two, Tipton dropped 13 strokes as a team.  That drop was the third best on the second day.  West Lyon dropped 36 strokes and Ogden 22 were the only other teams ahead of the Tigers in stroke dropping no the second day.  Tipton shot the third lowest team score on day two.  Treynor shot a team score of 348 and Emmetsburg 370 then Tipton with a score of 372.
Meyer shot a two-day total of 185.  She had a day one score of 95 and dropped five strokes on day two to shoot a score of 90.  Meyer had two pars on the first nine for a score of 49  and two more on the second nine holes on day one for a score of 46, a three stroke drop.  On day two, Meyer shot twin scores of 45 to finish with a score of 90.  Meyer shot par on the first hole on day two and added to more pars on holes six and eight.  Meyer hit par for holes two and three on the back nine on day two and added another par for hole seven.
Addy Duwe placed 24th overall at the state meet.  Duwe made the biggest drop in score, dropping 10 strokes from her score from the first nine (53) to the second nine (43) on day one.  Duwe shot par on hole four and birdie on hole six on day one’s first nine holes.  She came back and shot bogey on six of the second nine holes and par on two of the remaining three holes.  On day two, She started with a score of 44 after two pars and six bogeys on the front nine.  On the back nine she started with a double bogey, par and birdie, but struggled down the stretch and finished with a back nine score of 49.  Overall her score was a 189 with a three-stroke drop from day one (96) to day two (93).
Brittany Huinker placed 25th overall  Huinker shot a two-day total of 191 with a score of 94 on day one and 97 on day two.  She shot 49 on the front nine on day one and dropped four strokes on the back nine, checking in with a score of 45.  On day two, Huinker shot a front nine score of 48 and back nine score of 49.  For the two days, Huinker had five pars and 17 bogey shots.
Rylee Conrad placed 27th overall.  Conrad dropped eight strokes from her two-day total.  Conrad shot a 100 on day one and 92 on day two.  Conrad shot scores of 47 and 53 on day one of the state meet.  She ended the front nine holes with a birdie on a par-4 ninth hole.  On day two, Conrad shot twin scores of 46 to finish the day with a 92.  Conrad shot a birdie on a par-3 fourth hole and added three par holes on the front nine.  On the back nine, Conrad shot two par and three bogey shots to finish with a 46.
Mara Jauron placed 42nd with a score of 214.  Jauron shot a day one total of 116, but dropped 18 strokes on her day two score to finish with a 98.  Jauron shot one par shot on the front nine holes on day one to finish with a score of 59.  She had two bogey shots and dropped two strokes from her front nine score to finish with a score of 57 on the second nine.  On day two, Jauron shot twin scores of 49.  On the front nine, she had pars on holes four and eight and two bogey shots and on the back nine she had a par on hole seven and four bogey shots.
Durant’s Paige McKee was also at the state meet, qualifying as an individual out of the Jesup District meet.  McKee was the 5th individual qualifier at that meet and placed 23rd overall at the state meet.  McKee shot a day one score of 96 with a 47 on the first nine and a 49 on the second nine holes.  Her total score for the state meet was 189.
On day one, Mckee had a birdie on hole four on the first nine holes.  The par-3 hole was just 98 yards.  McKee shot par on a par-3 hole 8.  She shot bogey on three of the first nine holes.  On the back nine holes, McKee shot three holes at par, and four at bogey for a score of 49.
On day two, McKee shot par on the first nine holes on three holes and bogey on four holes for a score of 44. That was a three stroke drop from day one.  On the back nine, McKee had a rough nine holes, equaling her score of 49 on the back nine from day one.  McKee did lower her overall score three strokes from 96 to 93 on the second day.
Courtney Olson of Clayton Ridge, the individual champion at the Jesup District meet, placed 5th overall with a score of 168 with a day one score of 85 and a day two score of 83.
