Beavers Pick Up A Win at Muscatine Tournament

  MUSCATINE — The Wilton Beavers improved to 15-12 with a win in four games at the Muscatine softball tournament last Friday and Saturday. The Beavers lost to Cedar Rapids Prairie 10-5 and Muscatine 10-0 on Friday. Wilton beat Cedar Rapids Washington 14-4 on Saturday and fell to Davenport Assumption 12-1 in their final game.

Beavers Beat Cedar Rapids Washington
  MUSCATINE — Wilton got 20 hits in the first of two games last Saturday in a 14-4 win over Cedar Rapids Washington in six innings. The Beavers scored 10 runs in the first three innings to take command of the ball game. Kortney Drake and Payton Ganzer each had four hits in the game. Three others had multi-hit games.
  Mila Johnson pitched a six-inning contest and got the win. She struck out three, walked one and gave up four runs on four hits. Johnson had only one troublesome inning in the third when she gave up four runs.
  Alexis Walker and Lexi Maurer each had three hits and Karlie Schult added two hits in the win. Taylor Garvin, Kali Milder, Mila Johnson and Mallory Lange each had hits. Ganzer had a team high 5 RBI’s while Drake and Maurer had 2 RBI’s and Milder Garvin each had a RBI. 
  In the second game of the day, Wilton lost to the top ranked team in class 3A, Davenport Assumption, 12-1 in five innings. The Knights scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to wipe out the Beavers 1-0 lead and take command of the game. Assumption scored seven unanswered runs over the next four innings to take the 12-1 win in five innings.
  Mila Johnson took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits in one-inning pitched. She struck out one and walked one. Peyton Souhread pitched four innings in relief and gave up seven runs on seven hits.
  Wilton had only three hits in the game. Kortney Drake, Souhrada and Emily Coss had the hits. Alexis Walker drove in the only run of the game for Wilton.
  Assumption won their eighth game in a row with the win. Hannah Kelley was the winning pitcher and struck out three Beavers. Two Knights had multi-hit games. They were Anna Wohlers and Lea Nelson. Wohlers and Olivia Allen each had two RBI’s.

DAY 1: Beavers Rally Falls Short Against Cedar Rapids Prairie
  MUSCATINE — The Wilton softball team tried to rally from a 7-0 deficit to Cedar Rapids Prairie last Friday, but it wasn’t enough. The Beavers lost 10-5.
  Wilton was retired in order in the first two innings. Prairie scored seven runs before Wilton scored. Prairie sent nine batters to the plate in a 5-run inning. Prairie added two runs in the third and three in the third.
  Chloe Wells took the loss after two innings of work. She struck out one and walked one. Mila Johnson pitched five innings in relief.
  Kortney Drake and Wells each had two hits. Peyton Souhrada had a double and 3 RBI’s while Taylor Garvin and Mallory Lange had hits. Lange had a RBI.
  In game two, the Beavers played class 5A No. 15 Muscatine. There, the Muskies took a 10-0 win in
Muscatine scored the game's first runs with a 3-run first. That score held until the bottom of the fourth when Muscatine plated three more runs to extend their lead to 6-0. The Muskies put the game away and ended the contest by the 10-run mercy rule with a 4-run fifth to push the score to 10-0.
  Kaitlyn Bierman was the winning pitcher for the Muskies. She gave up five hits and struck out four. Rylie Moss was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s while Haley Jarrett and Kate Nelson each had two hits. Haley drove in a team high 3 RBI’s. Catie Cole had a home run and 2 RBI’s.
