COLUMN: From the Cheap Seats: Postseason softball brackets released, baseball district assignments announced

  Goodness, where has the summer season gone? The 2018 summer season is down
to two weeks in the regular season. Last week postseason district assignments were made for Iowa High School Baseball teams. Monday, postseason brackets were released for classes, A, 2A and 3A softball Regional tournaments.
  In class 2A, all four Conservative area schools are in the same Region. Tipton, North Cedar, Wilton and Durant. Two schools play each other right away. Tipton (3-11) will travel to Lowden to play North Cedar (3-13) on Monday, July 2 at 7:00 p.m. The winner will play at Jesup (17-10) on Tuesday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m.
  There are two ranked teams in Region 8. They are top ranked Durant and 14th ranked Jesup.
Wilton (14-9) will host Cascade (10-11) in a Region 8 quarterfinal and Durant (20-2) will host the winner of Maquoketa Valley (6-13) and Clayton Ridge (4-11). Both games start at 7:00 p.m. on July 3. The Regional Semi nals are at Durant and Jesup on Friday, July 6. The Region 8 Final is Monday, July 9 at the highest remaining seed.

Baseball Districts Are Released
  TIPTON — Last week, the Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason district assignments. Three of the four Conservative area schools are in district 8. Another is in district 7 for class 2A.
  In district 8, Durant, Tipton and Wilton make up half of the six teams in the district. They will be joined by Louisa-Muscatine, West Branch and West Liberty. Records of the six teams from best to worst are: Wilton 13-3, West Liberty 7-8, Louisa-Muscatine 7-8, West Branch 5-8, Tipton 5-9, Durant 5-11. The Beavers are the only ranked team in the district. Wilton is ranked No. 3. In district 7, North Cedar is one of six teams in the district. Other teams in the district are Bellevue, Camanche, Monticello, North- east and state ranked Dyersville-Beckman. Records of the six teams from best to worst are: Dyersville-Beckman 13-8, Monticel- lo 12-3, Camanche 6-7, Northeast 5-13, Bellevue 3-9, North Cedar 0-11. Dyersville-Beckman is ranked No. 6 in class 2A.
  Top-ranked Cascade is in district 6 along with Clayton Ridge, Waterloo Columbus, Jesup, Oelwein and Union. Second ranked Iowa City Regina is in district 9 along with Columbus Junction, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Mid-Prairie, Pekin and Williamsburg. District pairings, locations and times of first round games will be released at another time. First round games will be held on Saturday, July 7.
