CEDAR RAPIDS — Rain and a lot of it last week forced Wilton and Cascade, two of the top-3 ranked class 2A teams, to be creative in where they played their River Valley Conference cross-division game. The game was to be held in Cascade last Thursday, but poor field conditions meant that the game needed to be postponed. However, Mt. Mercy University in Cedar Rapids offered up their field, complete with field turf for the teams to use. They did. There, the top ranked team in class 2A, Cascade Cougars, beat the #3 ranked 2A team, Wilton, 2-0. The Cougars scored their two unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Jared Townsend struck out eight and walked one Cougar batter. Townsend gave up five hits over six innings. Wilton had seven hits in the game led by Garrett Bohnsack and Brock Hartley who each were 2-for-3. Colin McCrabb, Chantz Stevens and Tyler Hartman each had hits in the game.
Gannon O’Brien was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and scattering seven Wilton hits. He struck out nine and walked one batter.
Cascade had five hits in the game. O’Brien led Cascade batters, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Brock Simon, Blake Simon and Derek Kopes each had hits in the game.
