Nash Competes At 2018 State Meet

PANORA — Tipton freshman Alli Nash was among the field of individual state qualifiers last week at the Class 2A state golf meet. The state meet was held at Lake Panorama in Panora, Iowa. Nash making the state meet marks the second season in a row that the Tipton girls golf team has state representation. The 2017 girls team qualified for state, placing fourth in Class 2A.

Alli Nash advanced to the 2018 girl’s state golf tournament after shooting a score of 97 at the Dyersville Regional golf meet. The THS freshman tied for eighth with her score. Nash shaved off three strokes from her first nine-hole score of 50 on the second nine holes to card a 47.

Nash had a score of 114 at the River Valley Conference meet. She dropped ten stroked off of her first nine-hole score of 62 at the meet.

On day one, Nash shot a first nine-hole score of 50 and a second nine-hole score of 55 for a total score of 105. Nash shot par on three holes on the first day and hit bogey scores on three holes. She did not have a score over seven on any of the 18 holes on the first day.

On day two of the state meet, Nash shot a first nine-hole score of 52 and a second nine-hole score of 55 for a total score of 107. Nash shot par on three holes on the second day and hit bogey scores on five holes. She had only one hole that she shot a score of more than seven.

In all, Nash hit par on five of the holes in the two days. She had bogey shots on eight holes and double bogey shots on 14 holes.

Two individuals from RVC schools also competed at the state meet. Mid-Prairie’s Paige Slabaugh placed 20th with a two-day score of 183. West Branch’s Aleah Rocha placed 29th with a two-day score of 193. Monticello was led by Lauren Ries with a 15th place finish and a two-day score of 176.

Van Meter won the Class 2A state title with a two-day team score of 733. New Hampton was the Class 2A runner-up, four strokes behind state champ Van Meter with a score of 736. Okoboji placed fourth and Unity Christian placed fourth. River Valley Conference member Monticello placed 10th in class 2A with a team score of 838.

Girl’s golf in Iowa is one of Iowa’s oldest sanctioned sports for high school girls. Golf has the highest number of high school girls participants per capita
