TIPTON — The Tipton Tiger
girl’s track team will send ten
events to the state track meet
this week in Des Moines, after
automatically qualifying each
event for state at last Friday’s
state qualifying meet. The Tigers had the most wins with ve
and most automatic event qualifi ers at the meet with 10 among
the 12 teams represented. The
meet was held in Tipton and the
Tigers and the other 11 teams
were greeted with temperatures
in the low 60’s at the start of the
meet and a very large crowd of
spectators. The meet was origi-
nally scheduled for Thursday,
May 9, but cold and windy conditions forced the Iowa High
School Athletic Association and
the Iowa Girls High School Ath-
letic Union to move the meets
in all classes to Friday.
The Tigers won ve events and placed second in ve others for their ten automatic quali ers. The top two finishers in each event go to state, while the next best eight times statewide in each event also go to state. Northeast won the state qualify- ing meet with 107 team points. North Cedar placed third with 94.5 points and Iowa City Regi- na placed fourth with 80 points. Durant placed 8th and Wilton 10th in other area schools.
Winning events for THS were Jamie Kofron collecting a pair of wins in the shot put and dis- cus; Amanda Smith finishing second in both the 800 and the 1,500-meter runs; and THS re- lays - shuttle hurdle, 4X200, 4X400, 4X800, and the dis- tance medley relay. Six of those events turned in season-best times.
Kofron will get a chance to de- fend her 2018 discus title and a runner-up finish in the shot put. Kofron won the shot put with a the season-best throw of 46-03.25 breaking her own school record in the event and throwing fur- ther than her winning distance last month at the Drake Relays. Kofron also won the discus with a best throw of 132-feet, 9 inch- es. She came into the meet with the best distance in each event. Smith was the runner-up in the 800-meter run in 2:33.83 and in the 1,500-meter run in 5:25.53. She was the second seed in the 800, but rose to the runner-up nish in the 1,500 after entering the meet with the fourth best time in the event. Liz Bierman placed second in the discus event with a best throw of 114-feet, 6 inches.
All ve relay events that quali- ed for state, turned in season- best times to punch their tickets to the state meet this week. Two relays exceeded their seeds to captureoneofthetwoautomat- ic qualifying slots in the event. The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Ashlyn Curry, Courtney Petersen, Liz Bierman, and Syd- ney Barton ran to a runner-up nish in 1:11.50. The relay was seeded third before the meet. The Tigers 4X200-meter relay team of Emily Hermsen, Rachel Bierman, Karlee Kamberling, and Jaydon Bierman were run- ners-up in a season-best time of 1:52.60. The relay was seeded fourth entering the meet.
Tipton won three relays at the meet and was seeded rst enter- ing the meet. All ran to season- best times. The 4X400-meter relay team of Kallie Wallick, Rachel Bierman, Karlee Kam- berlling, and Sommer Daniel crossed the nish line rst in 4:13.96. The 4X800-meter relay team of Kallie Wallick, Amanda Smith, Alyssa Mente, and Sommer Daniel took rst in a time of 10:29.33. The Ti- gers distance medley relay team of Emily Hermsen, Rachel Bier- man, Kallie Wallick, and Som- mer Daniel nished rst in a time of 4:29.65.

Knights Place 3rd, Send 6 Events To State
The North Cedar Knight girls track and eld team will send six events to this week’s Class 2A state meet this week in Des Moines. The Knights had ve automatic quali ers and one wildcard quali er last week.
North Cedar sophomore Kelly Proesch quali ed for state in four events, all were season- best times. Proesch won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.10 and was second in the 200-meter dash in 27.20. She added a runner-up nish in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.06. The Knights sprint medley re- lay team of Andrea Wachen- dorf, Kassidie Galloway, Kelley Proesch, and Cassie Cox were second in 1:52.85, a season-best time. Kassie Cox also claimed an automatic qualifying spot by winning the 400-meter dash in a season-best time of 1:01.13. North Cedar distance runner Kiley Chapman added a wildcard spot to get to state by placing 3rd in the 3,000-meter run in a season-best time of 11:29.31.
North Cedar had ve other events claim season bests at the meet. Nicole Sander placed 3rd and had a season-best throw in the discus with a toss of 110-09. Aubrie Pruess placed 17th in the 100-meter dash in a season-best time of 14.82. Rhyan Hoe er placed 7th in the 800-meter run in a season-best time of 2:39.88. Kyra Lange placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles in a season best time of 1:22.93. North Cedar’s 4X200- meter relay team of Andrea Wachendorf, Kassidie Gallo- way, Sydney Dennis and Sam Koth placed 7th in a season- best time of 1:58.69.
Three Events To State For Beavers
The Wilton girl’s track and eld team will take three events to this week’s state meet in Des Moines. Qualifying for Wil- ton were Kelsey Drake in the long jump, Linsey Ford in the 100-meter hurdles, and Kelsey Drake and Kortney Drake in the 400-meter dash.
Kortney Drake captured the Beavers only automatic event quali er. Drake was the run- ner-up in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.91, giving Cass- ie Cox from North Cedar all she could handle. Cox won the event in a time of 1:01.13. Ford placed 4th in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 16.23. Kelsey Drake will go to state in two events. Drake placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash in a season best time of 1:02.92.
Three other events for Wilton turned in season-best perfor- mances. Abby Brown placed 13th in the 800-meter run in a season-best time of 2:58.67. Two Wilton relay events had season best times, the 4X800 and the sprint medley relay team. The 4X800-meter relay team of Abby Brown, Tessa Bar- tell, Lindsey Randolph, and Emi Coss placed 5th in the event in a season-best time of 12:22.78. The Beavers sprint medley re- lay team of Linsey Ford, Aubrey Putman, Kelsey Drake, and Kortney Drake placed 4th in a season-best time of 1:54.97.
Wilton placed 10th in the team standings with 37 points at the meet.
Wildcats Will Have Two State Events
The Durant girl’s track and eld team had two athletes punch their tickets to the state meet in Des Moines this week. Meg Koenig and Abby Ryan will represent Durant at the Class 2A state meet. Durant placed 8th at the state qualifying meet in Tipton last Friday, scoring 44 team points.
Koenig won the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 26.83 winning a talented eld to capture one of the two auto- matic spots in the event. Ryan advanced to state by placing fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.11, a season-best time.
