CEDAR RAPIDS - Tipton senior setter Amanda Smith and junior outside hitter Sommer Daniel were named to the Class 3A All-Tournament team following the Class 3A championship match last Friday in Cedar Rapids. Named to the All-Tournament team were Smith, Daniel, Maci Overmohle (Carroll Kuemper), Danielle Johnson (Osage), Rory Light (Mount Vernon), Kara Peter (Carroll Kuemper), and Aimee Adams (Carroll Kuemper).
Daniel was named the captain of the All-Tournament team for her all-around play. She was the kill leader at state with 65. She added 46 assists, 38 digs, 4 blocks and served 39-for-40 with four ace serves in three state matches. Smith was second at the state tournament in assists with 79. She added 22 kills, 41 digs and served 50-for-53 with three ace serves.
3A Champion Carroll Kuemper had three selections to the All-Tournament team. Aimee Adams had 53 kills, 36 digs and Kara Peter had 49 kills, 19 blocks, and 9 digs. Setter Maci Overmohle led the 3A state tournament in assists with 131.
Rory Light of Mount Vernon and Osage’s Danielle Johnson were also selections. Light had 37 kills, 5 digs, and 4 blocks while Johnson had 37 kills and 23 digs.
Adams, Peters, Light, and Daniel all earned Class 3A All-State honors by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association after the 2017 season.
