Mild Upset Sends Wildcats To Region 8 Final

  MEDIAPOLIS — The Durant volleyball team sits one match away from the state tournament. This comes after upsetting No. 10 Van Buren 3-0 in one of two Region 8 semifinals. There, the Wildcats won their 26th match against 8 losses.

  Durant dominated the first set, winning 25-6 to take an early 1-0 match lead. Van Buren gave Durant a tougher time in the second set, but the Wildcats would win 25-22 to take a 2-0 match lead. Durant finished off Van Buren, winning the third set, 25-16 to take the match 3-0.

  Kamryn Meyer and Aubrin Dittmer each had 14 kills to share the lead for Durant. Ruby Kappeler had 36 assists and Paige Werthmann had 11 digs. Durant served 61-for-68 with 11 aces as a team. Annie Taylor led the way for the Wildcats, going 14-for-15 with two ace serves.

  Durant will now face Class 2A No. 2 Dyersville-Beckman in the Region 8 final. The match will take place in Anamosa on Tuesday, October 30. The Blazers beat Maquoketa Valley in a Region 8 quarterfinal and beat Cascade in a Region 8 semifinal. Heather Boeckenstedt leads four seniors with over 200 kills this season, with 335. Isabelle Bennett has 292, Ellie Bildstein has 265 and Caroline Kluesner had 224. Sydney Steffen has 1,103 assists and Sydney Arens has 445 digs. The Blazers are a senior led team with 10 seniors that see regular playing time.

Wildcats Sweep Arrows At Home
  DURANT — The Durant Wildcat volleyball team beat SE Iowa Super Conference foe Wapello in a Region 8 quarterfinal on October 22, 3-0. The win was the 25th on the season for Durant.
  Durant won the first set 25-12 and the second set by the same score to take a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats claimed the match, winning the third set 25-16 to earn the sweep.
  Kamryn Meyer and Aubrin Dittmer led Durant in kills with 12 and 11. Ruby Kappeler had 27 assists and Kamryn Meyer had 15 digs. Kappeler served 26-for-32 with 9 aces to lead Durant.
