MARSHALLTOWN — The Tigers were not done with the state meet after the medley relay. They had another event at state, the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Ali Anderson, Zoe Stonebraker, Rhyan Hoefler, and Maddie Swick swam their best race of the season, finishing in a time of 1:45.02 to place 29th. Freshman Rhyan Hoefler led off the relay followed by junior Ali Anderson and sophomores Maddie Swick and Zoe Stonebraker.
“They all swam well. It was a bummer we didn’t the record, but we swam our season-best times. It was close, less than a second, but it’s ok,” said Tipton swimming coach Whitney Gehrs.
The Tigers heat was the first of four in the event. Teams in Tipton’s heat were Johnston, Boone, Linn-Mar, Newton, Spencer, Des Moines Roosevelt, and Davenport Central. Newton placed the highest out of the Tigers heat at 18th overall in 1:42.10. Johnston placed 24th, Boone 25th, Spencer 27th, Des Moines Roosevelt 28th, Davenport Central 30th, and Linn-Mar 31st. Roosevelt had three returners from last year’s 24th place finish at state and Spencer had one returner from last year’s 15th place finishing the team.
“It was pretty good. We tried to keep up with the other teams but fell behind. We came back and got up there at the end of the heat,” said Tipton freshman Rhyan Hoefler.
“We got our fastest time this season, and that was good for us. Our goal was to break the school record, but we didn’t get it. We got our best time and that’s good to get in our last race this year,” she said.
Tipton’s fastest time of the regular season in the event came at their meet on October 6 at Cedar Rapids Washington in 1:49.02 with the team of Anderson, Swick, Stonebraker, and Hoefler. The same team swam to an 8th place finish at the Linn-Mar Regional meet in a time of 1:45.30 in a big-time drop. The Tiger relay team then swam their best time of the year at state in 1:45.02.

The best times coming into the state were - Rhyan Hoefler 58.17, Zoe Stonebraker 58.91, Maddie Swick 1:00.48 and Ali Anderson 1:01.05. The four also excelled at the 50-yard freestyle this year with the following best times - Anderson 26.51, Stonebraker 27.22, Hoefler 27.75 and Swick 28.09.
