Knights Getting Closer to Double Digit Wins

CLARENCE - The North Cedar girls basketball team inched closer to a double digit victory total after winning their ninth game last Saturday over Lisbon at home, 63-22.  It was the third home win in their last four games, going back two weeks.  The win equals their win total from last year’s 9-14 season.  North Cedar will look to win ten games for the first time since the 2013-14 season.  Seniors on that team were Emily Flockhart, Cortlyn Kasik, Alison Malaby, Lexis Wagner, Allison Jensen and Steph Jones.
Saturday, North Cedar led by 17 at halftime 29-12 and busted the game open with a 22-8 run in the
third quarter.  North Cedar outscored Lisbon by ten points in the final quarter.  Three Knights scored
in double figures with Leah Crock scoring 11 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.  Darby Hawtrey and
Lexi Crist each had 10 points  Crist came close to a triple double, adding 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
The Knights victory with the Lions ended a three-game week where they went 1-2 in three games
to improve to 9-10 overall.

West Branch Gets Away From Knights In Middle Quarters
WEST BRANCH — North Cedar lost their second game in a row at West Branch last Tuesday.  
The Bears led by five after the first quarter, 19-14, but outscored the Knights 34 to 14 in the second
and third quarters to take a 25-point lead into the final quarter.
Lexi Crist scored 12 points to lead North Cedar.  The Knights had only 19 rebounds and shot
50-percent from the free throw line.  North Cedar’s record against the RVC South slipped to 3-3
with a home game with West Liberty Friday.

Knights nearly knock off state ranked Panthers
CLARENCE — The North Cedar girls basketball team put a scare into the 9th ranked team in class
3A last Tuesday at home.  There, Monticello needed a 20-point fourth quarter to overcome a
seven-point, 45-38 lead by the Knights after the third quarter.  North Cedar led by six points,
16-10 after the first quarter and held a four-point, 28-24 halftime lead.  The Knights extended their l
ead to seven by the fourth quarter.  Monticello won their fifth game in a row.  The Panthers beat
North Cedar 48-29 at home back on December 8.
Darby Hawtrey scored 23 points on 8-for-18 shooting and 7-for-10 shooting from the free throw line.  
North Cedar had 29 rebounds, 16 assists and 10 steals in the game.
