DURANT — The top ranked class 2A softball team, the Durant Wildcats, continue to roll through their competition, seeing their win streak swell to 19 games last week. The Wildcats were to play at the Mid-Prairie tournament last Saturday. Results and a report on those games will be in next week’s paper. The Wildcats crossed off one goal they have had this season, and that is to win the 2018 RVC South Division, conference championship. The feat is the third straight year of an RVC title for Durant. Victories over Iowa City Regina, West Branch, Tipton and Northeast wrapped up an impressive feat of perfection, running the table in RVC play, finishing with an undefeated 17-0 conference record.
Meyer Strikes Out 8, Drives In 4 In Northeast Win
DURANT — Durant junior Kamryn Meyer had a big game in the Wildcats 7-2 win last Friday. Meyer pitched a complete game and struck out eight Rebels in the pitching circle to get the win, and at the plate, she batted 2-for-2 with a triple and drove in 4 runs.
Durant had seven hits in the game. Hannah Happ was 3-for-4 and Mallory Warner was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Kira Schult and Ruby Kappeler each had RBI’s. Five different Durant players drew walks off of Northeast pitcher Alexis Ehlers.
Northeast was led at the plate by Audrey Morris who was 3-for-4 with a double and Makenna McDonald was 2-for-3.
The Wildcats scored twice in the bottom of the first and again in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Durant led 5-0 before Northeast pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth. Durant scored the last runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Wildcats Finish RVC South Unbeaten
DURANT — The Durant softball team finished games against RVC South teams unbeaten after sweeping Tipton last Thursday, by scores of 12-0 in game one and 1-0 in game two. It was the second straight doubleheader sweep at home for Durant.
In game one, Durant scored nine runs in the third inning to break open a 2-0 game on their way to a 12-0 win. Kamryn Meyer pitched a perfect game and had nine strikeouts.
The Wildcats had 11 hits and were led by Jalyn Bullard who was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI’s. Kamryn Meyer and Paige Werthmann each had two hits. Meyer, Kira Schult, Werthmann, Bullard and Jada Rock all had doubles. Meyer had 3 RBI’s while Ruby Kappeler, Werthmann and Bullard each had 2 RBI’s.
In game two, Tipton fought hard, but Durant got a three-hit, complete game shutout from Jenna Lawson to get a 1-0 win. Lawson struck out seven. Brooklyn Bullard was 2-for-3 and Meyer drove in the only run of the game.
Wildcats outscore Bears 15-1 in Doubleheader sweep
DURANT — The Durant softball team collected two wins against West Branch last Wednesday at home. Durant won game one, 7-1 and won by a shutout in game two, 8-0.
In game one, Durant took a 7-1 victory. Kamryn Meyer was the winning pitcher after seven innings. Meyer struck out 16 and walked two batters. Meyer, Hannah Happ each had two hits to lead a 7-hit attack. Meyer drove in two runs.
In game two, Jenna Lawson twirled a two-hitter and pitched a complete game shutout. Lawson struck out 12 and walked one batter.
Durant scored first in the first inning and added three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead. Durant extended their lead with two runs in the fourth and fifth to take an 8-0 lead after five innings.
Durant had nine hits in the game and had three players with multi-hit games. Hannah Happ, Mallory Warner and Paige Werthmann each had two hits. Kamryn Meyer, Kira Schult and Brooklyn Bullard each had hits. Happ had 2 RBI’s while Meyer, Schult, Werthmann and Kylie Schult each had RBI’s.
