Knights Fall In Four River Valley Conference Games

  CASCADE — The 2018 summer season is rapidly coming to a close. This week is the final week of the regular season for high school baseball teams. The North Cedar Knights are still looking for their first win of the season and will play at Lisbon Thursday before starting postseason play Saturday. The Knights will play Camanche at Northeast in Goose Lake Saturday, July 7. The game will begin at 5 and is the first of two games that night. Northeast will play Bellevue at 7. If the Knights win, North Cedar will play Monticello on Tuesday, July 10. The district final is Saturday, July 14.

  Before the postseason can begin, North Cedar played a pair of RVC North doubleheaders against Camanche and Cascade.

  The Knights dropped two games to the top ranked team in class 2A Cascade last Thursday, June 28. There, North Cedar fell 12-2 in five innings in game one and 10-0 in five innings in game two.

  Brock Simon got the win for Cascade in game one. Simon also led at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI’s, 3 stolen bases, a walk and a run scored. Reid Rausch and Harris Hoffman each had two hits. The Cougars led 4-2 after three innings, but used a six-run fourth to take control of the ball game.

  In game two, North Cedar had only two hits in the five inning game. Gannon O’Brien was the winning pitcher and did not allow a hit and struck out three batters. Cascade broke open a close 3-0 game with four-run innings in the bottom of the third and fourth. Three Cougars had two-hit games.


Knights lose twice to Camanche
  LOWDEN — It was not a good home finale last Monday, June 25 for the North Cedar baseball team. The Knights fell twice to Camanche by scores of 10-2 and 10-0.

  In game one, North Cedar scored their only runs in the bottom of the third inning after Camanche took a 6-0 lead.

  Devon Willis took the loss after working 2 2/3 innings. Tyler Jackson and Cole Taylor pitched in relief. Brayden Lodge was the winning pitcher after working six innings and striking out ten North Cedar batters.

  In game two, Camanche won 10-0 in six innings. The Indians scored runs in each of the six innings of the game. P.J. Puckett was the winning pitcher after going six innings and striking out ten North Cedar batters.
