STANWOOD — Bad weather Friday night forced the postponement of North Cedar’s home game with state-ranked Bellevue last week. Heavy rain and lightning caused major problems in the Northern part of Cedar County, making it impossible to hold a football game. The two teams rescheduled the contest to Saturday, October 6 in the afternoon. There, the Comets used a 22-point outburst in the first quarter to secure a 29-6 win. Bellevue improved to 6-1 and 3-0 in district play. North Cedar fell to 1-6 and 0-3 in district play. The Comets are ranked No. 3 in the latest Associated Press Class 1A poll.

Bellevue scored three first quarter touchdowns to take control of the football game. A 24-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Tennant to Trevor Hager was the first touchdown of the game for either team. Trey Daugherty ran the two-point converison in to give Bellevue an 8-0 lead. Later, two Ben Parker 2-yard scoring runs and Ty Kloser PAT kicks set the score at 22-0 Comets.

Bellevue extended their lead to 29-0 after three quarters. A Tennant 3-yard run was the only score in the quarter.

North Cedar got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, scoring their only points of the game. There, a Ethan Sahr to Braden Wink 7-yard pass prevented the Knights from being shutout. North Cedar has not been shutout in any of their seven games so far this season.

The Blazers come to town this week with a record of 1-2 in district 4 and 3-4 overall. The Blazers have lost two in a row coming into week 8 with back-to-back losses to Bellevue and Cascade. Beckman has a high point total of 41 points, scoring in their only district win against Northeast, 41-14 on September 21.
