WILTON — The Wilton Beavers lost their first game in RVC play last Thursday at home. There, Wilton lost the rst of two games with West Branch. The Bears beat Wilton 9-6 in game one but Wilton returned the favor in game two, winning 16-6 in six innings.
In game one, Wilton matched West Branch’s two rst-inning runs with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Wilton took a 4-2 lead on a two-run home run by Chloe Wells in the bottom of the second. Wilton led 5-2 after three innings.
West Branch took over the game in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs and adding a single run in the top of the fifth to take a 9-5 lead. Wilton added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough.
Mila Johnson took the loss working all seven innings. She struck out six and walked ve batters. The Beavers had ve hits in the game led by Mallory Lange who was 2-for-3 with a double RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Ella Ca rey also had an RBI while Taylor Garvin and Emily Coss each had hits.
West Branch led 1-0 in game two before Wilton hung ten runs on them in the bottom of the second inning. The Beavers sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning. Ella Ca rey led o the inning with a double and later scored when Shelby Oien has issued a bases loaded walk tied the game at 1-1 with no outs. Later, Mallory Lange smacked a 2-run single and Chloe Wells hit a base-clearing double. Caf- frey would also have a 2-run double in the inning, batting for the second time in the inning. Wilton scored all 10 runs before an out was recorded in the inning and had 10 straight batters reach base in the inning.
West Branch responded, scoring ve runs in the top of the third inning to trim the Beavers lead to 10-6. That score stood until Wilton scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 12-6.
Chloe Wells was the winning pitcher after 4 1/3 innings of work. She gave up six runs on 11 hits and struck out two. Mila Johnson pitched the nal 1 2/3 innings in scoreless relief.
Wilton had 11 hits in the game and drew 15 walks. Wilton had four players with multi-hit games. Mallory Lange, Chloe Wells, Ella Ca rey, and Shelby Oien all had two hits. Ca rey collected two of the three Wil- ton doubles in the game with Oien hitting the other. Lange and Wells each had 3 RBI’s while Ca ery and Oien each had 2 RBI’s. West Branch walked the Beavers 2-4 hitters each three times.
Oien and Lange each had RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the Beavers lead to 14-6. Wilton tacked on two sixth-inning runs to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
Beavers Begin Week With Non-Conference Split
WILTON — The Wilton softball team started a busy ve- game week with a split with Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe Wapello in a home doubleheader on Monday, May 27. Wapello beat Wilton 8-3 and Wilton beat Wapello 7-3. It was the rst of ve home games last week for the Beavers.
Mila Johnson took the loss in an 8-3 loss. She gave up ten hits and struck out six batters. Chloe Wells pitched three innings in relief. Wilton had nine hits in the game led by Mallory Lange who was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Taylor Garvin was 2-for-4. Eighth-grader Taylor Drayfahl he a two-run home run in the game. Wapello led 6-0 after four innings having scored three runs in back-to-back innings in the top of the third and fourth innings. Wilton rallied with three unanswered runs over the next two innings to cut the Wapello lead to 6-2, but that is as close as they could get.
In the Beavers victory, Mila Johnson pitched a complete game and worked seven innings. She struck out seven and walked one batter. She gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits. Wilton had 10 hits in the game with three players collecting multi-hit games. Kortney Drake was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Mallory Lange and Chloe Wells each had two hits. Lange had 2 RBI’s and a double.
Beavers End Week With Win Over Fort Madison
WILTON — The Wilton softball team ended their week with their second straight win last week with a 6-1 win at home over Fort Madison on Friday, May 31. The Beavers ended their 3-2 in their ve games. It was the third team from the Southeast Conference that Wil- ton has played this season. The others were Keokuk and Mount Pleasant. Wilton improved to 2-3 in ve non-conference games.
Mila Johnson scattered four hits and gave up one run in ve innings. She struck out two batters. Chloe Wells pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh in relief and recorded three strikeouts.
Wilton had 11 hits in the game with four batters having multi-hit games. Kortney Drake was 3-for-4 with two doubles an RBI and three runs. Chloe Wells, Payton Ganzer, and Emily Coss each had two hits. Wells had a home run and drove in three runs.
Wilton Falls Twice At L-M Tournament
LETTS — The Beavers traveled to Letts for the annual L+M tournament on Saturday, May 24. There, the Beavers played two teams, Class 3A No. 7 Louisa-Muscatine and Mount Plesant. The Beavers came into the tournament 2-0 and ranked third in Class 2A. There, the Beavers lost 6-2 to Louisa-Mus- catine and 3-2 to Mount Pleasant.
Wilton trailed 3-0 after two innings. The Falcons got to starter Mila Johnson with three runs on four hits and two walks. Chloe Wells pitched the nal three innings and also gave up three runs on four hits. She walked four batters.
Wilton had three hits in the game, one each from Kortney Drake, Taylor Garvin, and Ella Ca rey. Kylee Sanders was the winning pitcher for the Falcons after ve innings of work and 6 strikeouts. Hailey Sanders pitched a scoreless sixth inning. L+M had eight hits led by Brynn Jeambey who was 2-for- 3 with a run scored.
